Last time i was on here i was replacing the head gasket and uim/lim and wasn't running good. figured out it was the cat. cut it off .. HUGE difference. didn't know the car could launch this good. great first car. anyways I'm about to tint and want to put header, cai,and 65mm tb
what other things will make a big difference in speed and take off?
And will headers lower fuel economy ? Besides the fact of me.punching it? Thanks in advance!
here's some pics of it now http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn42/matt_matt2008/CAM00406.jpg

I also used automotive spray paint for this car ..rustoleum
didn't turn out bad at all. painted stock rims and they look pretty good
I'm 17 with very low income.. best i can do for.now

you might wanna run that power wire through one of the already existing grommets in the firewall.

there's one (standing in front on the car looking at the fuse box) right below the fuse box that you could easily fit that through and not interfere with any of the other stuff.

do two things.

1.) paint the hood white.....even if it with a rattle can, will look tons better than what ever color it is now....seriouly what is that? a dirty **** flat black??

2.) route the amp power wire though the firewall. instead of the door jam were it could likely get pinched in the hinge.....then say "bye bye" battery

Really? Do i need to remove anything or just run it through stuff?
I'm about to run new wires anyways

Also another question. i wanted to run blue neons under the dash to illuminate floor panels and neons under car to give off a nice look. someone said it was illegal?

It was a glossy black on it and i accidently touched up with flat. i thought the black looked better than white..

under car lights are illegal to drive with while on.....distraction to other drivers. while parked in parking lots or driving anywere not on a road. they fine

It's illegal if you are driving around with them on. Red and blue are emergency vehicle colors. You can be parked with them on though.

use a coat hanger to guide the stuff through the grommet. bend the end your pushing through the grommet and bend the other end clamping down the wire you want to pull through.

that's the same way i have ran my wideband harness.

the only thing you need to take off is the plastic piece under the steering wheel right above the pedals. plastic push clip and one screw.

under car lights are illegal to drive with while on.....
not to mention they are :amraam:

HOLY BATMAN THAT DASH IS NUTS!

Anywho Not bad I think you just need to "clean it up". Hood mainly is the issue being a different color and not CF... some people hate CF hoods cause it looks dumb with the other color but some can pull it off..

Yeah it is. its pulling away from speedometer shield thing and by the fuse panel. Don't think there's a possibility in fixing it

TruGreenGAGT

ya IMO CF unpainted only looks good on dark colored cars cause it blends in more....I.E. black, dark blue, forest green.....on lightly colored cars it looks out of place and should be painted.....I.E. white, silver, yellow, red

surfermatt95
11-12-2012, 12:01 PM
Instead of painting it.. id like to find a white hood with the scoops the newer ones have. what's a good price to pay for one at a junkyard? In kissimmee here there's a lot of those hoods. do they hook up to ram air? Or just cool engine?

sudden_impulse
11-12-2012, 12:46 PM
They do neither, the holes are blocked off. The amount of airflow they'd give when open isn't gonna be significant enough to cool the engine, they'll only let it get dirtier faster.

[ChaosweaveR]

Sweet Odin, this car is a hot mess.

The dash is just tasteless and random. The wiring looks halfassed, painting the hood black? Stop making it look like a poor man's CF hood. Painted stockers...meh, the car is white, it just doesn't work.

Neons? Goddamn kids.

The coolest thing I've done was cleaned mine up. It went from a nasty disgusting car to respectable. Sometimes the best way to hook up a car is to keep it clean instead of visually loud.

But here is the other side of the fence's perspective. It's your car and you can do what you want to it. In the end, you are your own critic, and you can only satisfy yourself with the decisions you make with it.

Now the best advice I have seen so far in this thread is to take care of that amp power wire. Also, see about finding a way to fix the paint lines/masking issues on those lower door panel cubby spaces, so it's cleaned up.

This.

I would of kept the rims silver, I love how the silver rims look on the GAs rather then the chrome versions I have now. Spray painted rims just look tacky and you fit the description of being 17 with a low income...black stock painted rims with a discolored hood lol. Should of just kept the rims stock color so you wouldn't fit the stereotype.

Also looks like a shtty job painting the cubby holes in the doors.

Ill admit it was. the painting tape didn't seal and the hole didn't come out.
ill be fixing a lot. I'm not keeping the rims stock. going to switch soon. getting a decent amount from a settlement. on workerscomp so i use what i need and save the rest woth not much left over after bills

The stock silver ones look even better after a machine polish. You can take your chrome caps off your wheels to have the silver ones, though they might have defects in them (they are Enkei wheels though).

How would you go about doing that? I thought the molding could never come off and how do you know they are Enkei's? o.O

I would figure if you use a heat gun that would take a very long time.

[ChaosweaveR]

Enkei makes a lot of factory wheels for GM.

The Enkei logo is stamped on the back of five spokes, and in the center of the torqued ones. The GT's 16x6.5 stockers that is.

you can open the hood scoops by removing the plates but its rather pointless unless you decide to fab up hoses to the filter box otherwise it really doesnt improve anything

Painted my car to match my 69 GTO...

on a side note...wow! someone actually has a dash worse than mine!!! oh well, I have a mint one coming this week anyways! Although this car is actually in far better shape than mine was when I started. (search the appearance board for my build thread)

My favorite mod was the SC/T hood and spoiler!

Hooking it up to the stock air of won't do ****. The stock airbox is junk anyway. Opening the ram air vents will get cool air into the engine bay, cool air is always a plus.

Decided to straight pipe it. cut the o2 sensor port off the clogged cat and welded it on the resonator and welded it back... just have a noisy pebble in the muffler. i do have a question though. With no catalytic converter onit or pipe the car did fantastic and went well over 110 and i had to slow. now that the straight pipe on with almost no pressure the car WILL NOT go past 90. The tach. will just bounce from 5 to 3. Like its governed. what could it be?

you ran just downpipe? thats good for your valves....

aside from that.. you need to tune out the cat o2 sensor. and get a real cat delete pipe. aside from bogging at 90 idk.

Your car must hate you...

I let Aaron fill in the details (if he wishes).

But it is not the no pressure that is getting you.
As back pressure is never good.
You IMO have no exhaust gas velocity; & no scavenging effect.

Save you money, & stop mod'ing you car's motor.
Don't get headers unless you are going to do it right !
Headers with a proper tune & catback exhaust.

When done properly, always get better gas mileage.

If you don't do it properly, like not tuning...the motor will run LEAN!

That's because you don't understand anything about how engine's or the cars computer works.

Do yourself a favor... put a new cat back on the car, put the O2 sensors back in, stop modifying it and just drive it. It should drive better after that.

Something I haven't seen said, if the old cat was clogged and bad, was the car bottomed out to break up the ceramic stuff inside it? If not, there was something wrong with the way the car was running to clog up that cat, they don't just "go bad" for no reason.

This is the info I got from a buddy who's done exhaust for, forever. I've never heard anything to dispute it, so I figure he was right. The right thing is just what Aaron said, put it back, stock, and then I'd drive it a bit, and check codes. See what the thing may be reporting.
You're making your problems WAY worse with the poor man's workarounds, they actually cost you far more money

Thanks yeah the car didn't run when i got it and the lim and uim was ****. and i suppose that coulda caused it, head gasket wasn't too good either. i took car out again after i cleared codes and ran fine. i just don't have money for a cat. so icut it. and put a resonator to quiet it as much aspossible

bricooper78
11-28-2012, 08:12 PM
okay, yea, if it's burning coolant and or running rich, that would put gases into the cat that it isn't designed to convert, and over time screws it up, making it fail. that could have lead to a lot of this.
Check around for a cat, that will fit and work properly, they may be cheaper at an exhaust shop, due to them making more on the actual install vs. just selling it... if they'll just sell it to ya.

okay, yea, if it's burning coolant and or running rich, that would put gases into the cat that it isn't designed to convert, and over time screws it up, making it fail. that could have lead to a lot of this.
Check around for a cat, that will fit and work properly, they may be cheaper at an exhaust shop, due to them making more on the actual install vs. just selling it... if they'll just sell it to ya.

I'm honestly not too worried about it. Not having a cat isn't making the car run bad. if it does ill go buy one
