hey everyone, im new here but i was on GAOC for a while.

i got an '03 gagt1 with a cylinder 1 misfire code and a p0300 code in the DLC history.

it runs fine when i start it up, runs good when i start driving it but about 5 minutes into driving it my SES light comes on, my trac off light comes on, i lose acceleration even when i kick it down a gear. i have no heat in the cab at idle, ive bled the system. i recently got a full cooling system tune up including new intake gaskets. its got new plugs and wires. i did a compression test, its equal all around, no abnormal drops or spikes in psi. sitting around 150 5 psi. im not losing coolant and i replaced the reservoir cap.

im narrowing it down to 3 things and i hope someone can chime in if im on the right path or if im wrong:

1. bad CAT (smell of rotten eggs from exhaust)
2. bad ECM
3. bad 1/4 coil pack

update: i swapped the 3/6 coils with the 1/4 coils to see if the coils were no good. well i got the same symptoms as usual, temp gauge redlines, coolant pisses out the overflow. heres the kicker it used to give me a code for p0301. tonight when i ran it hard trying to pop that ses light, it wouldnt come on. usually it comes on before the trac off light comes on. im stumped here, is it something to do with my heads?

Headgasket. I've seen this many times before. The heads are aluminum, be mindful to check to see if they've been warped from the excessive heat while doing the headgaskets.

Bah. I can't afford that fix. Thanks for the quick reply

If you do it yourself, it's not expensive.

The furthest I've got on a motor is a thermostat. And if I had a garage to do it in, I would give it a shot myself. For now I'm buying my buddy's turtle-mobile to drive

Its for sale for parts or as a whole. If I don't sell it by the time I have more money ill fix it up. As of now it sits

Something tells me you won't be so quick to leave the forum if you don't have a GA anymore...

Can't say I will. I'm a Pontiac fanatic, I like to learn as well as educate

So, I'm not gonna be selling the GA. I bought my buddies 99 sl1 for $500. However the GA will still be sitting until spring or so. I'm gonna strip the stereo out and LEDs as well and make that Tupperware container somewhat canadian ghetto pimped

I wouldn't be completely sure it's a head gasket. If it was, you'd probably be losing coolant, and you should have seen a low number on the compression test. Hot or cold shouldn't really matter if it's a bad gasket, but if the head is warped (and the gaskets fine), that might cause the problem. They usually tell you to warm the engine up before doing a compression test. Since the problem appears after you drive for a little while and the engine heats up, that would be when you want to do the compression test.

Oh I'm losing coolant... once that ses light comes on, I can make it home a quarter mile before it all pisses out the overflow. Twas my first time doing a compression test I don't know if I did it properly

Ok, well your first post you said you weren't losing coolant so... can't give an accurate diagnosis without accurate info. ;)

Well, I wasn't for a couple test drives. I forget to specify some things properly

Any idea if the buyer is going to take the opportunity to do anything else to it, or is he just going to put a new gasket and let er rip?
