As topic title says. I have a 02 GA. one of the axels (cv joint) have began to click while turning. I have a remanufactured axle ready to install. Pretty sure with all my tools the biggest socket I have is 3/4. Not quite big enough to grab the hub nut.

anyone know the size off the top of your head? will go purchase a single socket if I know the size? Also does it have to be a deep socket? it is passangers side and looks touch and go for a regular to fit without the need for a deep socket?

thanks

I think they were 55mm? The parts store should be able to tell you tho. 57mm maybe? It's somewhere in that range, but it's been years since I've changed one

It's supposed to be a 35mm axle nut. I changed the wheelbearing in my girlfriend's Alero just over a month ago.

it's a 36mm nut and has always been. even the new nut i got with my bearings from napa a few years back was the same size.

Well this says other wise:

And as I said earlier I just did this job just over a month ago. They have 2 different types of axle bolts too. One's a whole bolt and one is an irregular type that is pictured in the link above. Not sure if it has a special name or what.

Edit: get both a 35mm and a 36mm in case.. Both sizes exist so it can be one or the other.

Actually it's not. At least it's not on mine. I just changed one on my car a week ago, and I've done it twice. Mine is a 1-3/8" nut. That might work out to a 35mm as well. A 36mm socket will fit it, but it's sloppy. The re-manufactured axle I put in came with a different nut that was an exact fit for 36mm, but it also didn't have the washer like stock. It was a different design with a thinner area for the socket to engage, and I couldn't turn it down all the way with my sockets. The axle shaft sticks out too far so I would have needed a deep socket to use that nut. I just reused my stock nut instead. Not going to go buy another 36mm socket for what those things cost.
