Okay, so I bought torre's old gen 2 led tinted tail lights. They didn't come with any rubber molding along the outside, it looks like it never had any on there. MY TYC one's had a rubber molding strip along the outside, so it would seal nice. But there's about an 1/8 of an inch gap on the driver side tail light. It almost looks like my bumper is sagging, because if I pull up on the bumper there is no gap then... gahh I'm stumped on what to do, because I love these tail lights. Anyway, on the passenger side there's just a really small gap, but nothing like the driver side.

Here's a couple of pictures its hard to tell, but I can actually see the wires looking through the 1/8 inch gap :(

You have a black car so gaps blend in and you're still worried about a little gap like that? lmao

One of my LED tails did the same near the top of the tail light, I lived with it, wasn't that big of a deal, I guess I just got a bad pair that didn't fit cleanly or just got a tail light that was warped since I never heard of anyone else saying anything about the fitment of them.

They do look alot better then the big obnoxious looking ones though. Now get an LED 3rd.

Well it's concerning with rain and water. About 2 weeks ago I had about 2 inches of standing water in the trunk where the extra donut tire is.. still don't know where that came from. I also, have a lot of expensive equipment in the trunk two amps and a two 12" subs. So, yes the gap is concerning to me. Water is detrimental to electronics, so that's why I want to seal the gap up.

TDavis

With that gap nothing should get into your trunk to actually hurt anything, nothing should actually get into the trunk at all with that gap. Shouldn't hurt your tail light either.

I read the title and thought it was zuki being dumb again. But really you'll be fine the tails get sealed when you put the nuts on so nothing will get in the trunk

if you want a clean fitment, cut the rubber off the old tails, and glue them on the new ones, i had to do it with my custom tails cause the guy who made em thought the rubber wasnt needed... yet i had a 1/4 to half inch gap around all 4 tails and it just looked terrible.

i had a similar dilemma with my A E D taillights. I tried taking the gasket off another set to replace it and it looked like crap so i said **** it.

Haha that's what I'm concerned about, it turning out like ****. Then I"ll end up saying screw this leave the gap, and then with my luck my electronics back there will fry 500+ dollar system between two amps, two 12" subs, and 4 speakers ran to the amps.

no dude take the light off and look at the 4 screw posts you'll see the foam rubber washer/gasket at the base that is what seals the lights to the trunk.... the rubber trim thing you talking about is for cosmetics and does NOTHING else.

you can drive around with no bumber and the trunk is still sealed.

your water problem is more then likely coming from somthing else

I know I understand that, but that's not even sealing it though. I can see the wires and into the base of the trunk (behind the carpet) through the 1/8 inch gap. So, it may be my bumper sagging... ahh idk.

I was thinking maybe getting 3/16 of inch (1/16 of inch bigger than the crack) ruber weather stripping and wetching it in the gap. Or maybe even rubber backer rod that seals cracks in cement floors. maybe that would work?

k im looking at your pics and yes i see wires....but im lost as how you think water will get in?

Those wires are hidden behind the carpet that you pull back, so technically IF enough water were to get in, it could soak the trunk. Now maybe I'm making a bigger deal than it is, because all the electronics are on the passenger side... but still with that much into a system I don't want to ruin them, because of a ****ty 1/8 inch gap behind the tail lights.

In reality, you can supposedly see wires and and into the trunk from the gap but who in the **** will bend over and look for a gap in your tail lights?

One of the minor reasons I'm glad I don't have stupid audio upgrades lol

I'm still really missing the point on why this little gap will harm anything.

TruGreenGAGT
05-22-2013, 10:27 PM
ok no dude.

go take your one light off and look you'll only see 4 small holes that lead into the trunk and those are were the screws fit into that mount the light...the wires you are seeing are supposed to be there and on the outside like that...

A little update for you that are wondering how the tails look.. after my dohhh moment yesterday  .... You can't even see the gap unless your real close. I'm really happy with how they look, much better than the other TYC ones.

You needed to put a resistor in the 3rd for the CC to work. And idk why yours was dim, you must of got a faulty item.

And yea if someone didn't want to put a resistor in then the Impala 3rd was another option so you wouldn't have to mess with anything but I like the aftermarket look the one now gives me, plus my CC works fine.

When I had my LED tails in I still had CC. Only "problem" was my ABS light was always on.

Also, i swear you must of got a faulty 3rd. Just went out and checked mine and my 3rd is as bright as it should be with the brakes applied and headlights on. Dunno if your eyes are just adjusting to your bright ass LED tails which make the 3rd look dim? I know when I looked at my LED tails my turn signals looked almost an amber color but that was because the LEDs where so bright and red.

plus resistors heat up, so with long application of brakes may be bad for the plug there

start car.
turn on headlights.
exit car and look at 3rd... dim constant glow
have other person depress brake pedal
light bright as ****

only while no brakes were applied

oh and impala free if you pocket it... lol

Ok now I get what you're saying. Be more clear next time lol "but when headlights were on and no brakes where applied the 3rd had a constant dim glow."

Thats what you should of added to your sentence.

But yea, mine isn't constantly on when the headlights are on, works like normal.

I'll tell you what does do that though, my map and floor lights are very very very slightly on all the time, they're LED so it doesn't worry me at all much since its not using that much power but I'll notice when I wiggle the rear view mirror wire they'll turn completely off.

BTW Travis, ya they're bright as hell, I miss having mine because I feel I got payback at the faggots with lifted trucks and people who had their brights on behind me, blind em at stop lights :)

I'm glad I'm not the only person that tired of the idiots with their brights on. I wish my car has a better option for LED taillights the ones they have now I don't like them.

Wait a few months til I do my part out thread, got some custom LED taillights built by a member from florida, pyro, search around and you could find some pics of them. To me they are the nicest LED tails ever made for a Grand Am..and the Chicago crew can tell you how blinding they are at night, lol

Man... All that fuss about the gap and then not worried about it. Why not use some of the stick on felt material that you use for window insulation....

Just concerned about the electronics, then I realized the gap isn't even exposed to the trunk lol
