What is the correct torque for the headbolts on a 3400 V6 engine? Some people say 37 ft lb 1st pass and 90 degrees second pass.
But also people say 44 ft lb 1st pass 95 degrees 2nd pass. Which is the correct one?

37 ft lbs and then 90 degrees according to the Haynes manual

also make sure your torque pattern is correct

Yeah, the sequence you have there is what I have in my book. It probably doesn't matter that much though as long you do one or the other and don't just tighten them all in a line across the top and bottom.

The goal is to try and bring the head down on the gasket as flat as possible. In the factories where the engines are assembled, they actually have a machine that tightens and torques all 8 bolts at the same time. I usually torque them in sequence to a lower value first, then go around again to the specified torque, then around a third time to 37 ft/lbs plus the 90 degrees. I do the same kind of procedure when I install the LIM, in order to bring it down as straight and even as possible.
