View Full Version : Hi-flo replacements?

Just ran into a small issue on my exhaust. I currently have the S&S header and downpipe with hi-flo setup. For those who may not know S&S went belly up a while back so direct replacements no longer exsist. The hi-flo tapers down to a 2.5" diameter pipe (before the O2 sensor) that has the bung for the sensor then continues out. My cat is rusting out and the pipe has split halfway through where the taper finishes so most likely can't be fixed since I assume you can't attach good steel pipe to rust.

So assuming I have to replace the cat what are my options? Is there a hi-flo replacement I can purchase or worst case if the dp is in bad shape what can I do to fix it? I recall 60 degree v6 had made up headers and dp combo as a group buy sometime back are those available by custom order or anything?

Magnaflow makes a high flow cat but without seeing pictures of your current setup it's hard to say how you could attach it. Milzy sells dowtubes so maybe they can fab something together for you or go to an exhaust shop. The worst that could happen is you might have to ditch the headers if they're rusted beyond repair.

Options.....

1. Have a local exhaust shop fab you up one and buy a magnaflow hi flow cat off internet, tell shop to weld on to new DP. (Most likely cheapest route)

2. Call milzymotorsports and get a custom DP.

3. Talk to ben at WOT-TECH. I know he made some headers awhile back but im not sure if he has any downpipes or when turn around time on one is if you order, you will have to ask him.

Ok so there was enough metal the shop guy was able to fix it. That said the pipe before the cat is a ticking time bomb as he said its just as bad. I'll have to see what can be done with the piping.

What that looked pretty bad! Hope they used stainless steel or it'll just happen again.

Lets see...CAI, 65mm TB, P&P Upper and lower, headers, hi-flo, and a jacked up exhaust. Technically not a performance mod but also have EGR delete and a tune from MP Racing. I used to have an electric cut-out but I burned out two of them and just resorted to putting a plate on the dump until the pipe rusted out and broke off.

But yea the 14.8 I haven't hit since I switched tires years and years ago from the RSA's to triple treds. Maybe next season I can finally put together a full 2.5" exhaust into a performance muffler but I might just get a new dump welded on after I figure out what if anything I'm gonna do with the DP.

Interesting, maybe i just need to maybe get a little finer tuning, i also have 18's and baer brakes but we basically have the same mods and my best so far has been 15.1

Truth be told 15.1 is more common. The night I got that 14 I was running 15.1s and for the heck of it I started hot lapping as lines were short. It took a few runs but I gradually got better. As I recall it went 15 then 14.9 and 14.8. Based off that experience I make claim the car runs better hot. Could be wrong but I havent had chance to confirm. I havent been able to reproduce that as I got the new tires soon after. If you're interested I'll dig up the slips for analysis.

Hmm you dont have to, interested on your RT time for the 14.8 though. :)

Yea that reaction time was a fluke chance. I'd love to take credit for it but unless I can reproduce similar numbers on demand its really just one of those WOW moments.
