i was told there is one sensor that is different on this
swap from a 2001 chevy impala 3.4 engine into a 99 grand am gt.
anyone know what the difference is?and can i use something
off my 99 that would make it work?

thanks, Rowe. ;attention

trying to think, i believe they are pretty identical. i think the 99 had a different UIM/EGR i believe. but i think thats about it. let someone else clarify, but i think im right.

why not just buy Mfullers engine when its up for sale? oh, your in tampa, hes in IL, shipping would kill you. nevermind.

I'm not sure about anything different they might have put on a 3400 in an impala... I can't think of any reason why anything would be different... but I know the differences between a 3400 in a '99 and '01 grand am.

The '99 had a different upper intake manifold with a different neck and EGR attachment point and EGR valve. Pretty sure the EGR connector is the same though 'cause lots of people have swapped newer UIM's with the newer EGR onto '99 cars. It's a better setup and the UIM flows more so I'd use the newer gear if you want to try it. A few people have reported minor issues with the EGR and driveability on a '99 if you haven't tuned the PCM for it, but some have not. You could always trying loading a 2000+ file into the PCM to run it, but you'd have to change your injectors and injector harness too because those changed between '99 and 2000. Otherwise, you can just swap your '99 UIM and EGR and injectors over to the new engine. You can just pull the fuel rails and harness with injectors all in one shot and move it over. Only other thing that would really need to be adapted is the cam sensor. They changed the sensor between '99 and '00, and again in '03. They work exactly the same, they just have different connectors with the pins in different positions, so you have to either change the pigtail and connector on the harness, or change the sensor. Easiest thing to do would be just take the sensor out of your '99 engine and put it in the new one.

i have the EGR valve, or EGR pump thingy from a 2000 and up style uim, less than 1k miles on it. i'm in tampa, so if you want it, it's yours for $10 bux.

well i got the engine guys.

just wondering if its easier to pull the transmission
out with the engine or can i just pull the engine
without the trans and just prop it up while i do the
swap?

You can pull the engine out the top by itself. It's a tight fit but it comes out. I've done it multiple times.

Im goin to go ahead and change the lim gasket

Yes. The gaskets are behind the pushrods so to replace them you have to loosen the rockers and remove the pushrods. I usually lay them out on a clean paper towel to remember what order they go back in. You can also figure it out just by looking at which valve the rocker opens. Exhaust valves use the longer push rod, intake valves use the shorter one.

thanks AaronGTR,,,service with a smile as usual.
is there a torque spec on those rockers?

You don't have to loosen the rockers at all if you use this tool to remove the push-rods:

The transmission stays in the car.

i see you replaced those wire covers in the back,,,,LOL.
I had to also,,they just crumbled in my hands like cookies.
oh,,,i also found out the difference in the 2001 impala and
the 99 grand am gt.the timing chain cover has one more
pully on the cover that the impala doesnt.
so i had to change it over too.changed all the mount brackets over also including the
bracket that goes to the trans/cv area.
