Is there a way to totally and completely bypass the GT security system? Locking the car door is sufficient, I don't want any other form of GM-engineered security on this car. How can I bypass it all?

Anyone?

Thanks!

Robert

There really isn't any form of security system on the car. Not in the traditional sense anyway.

Does the Grand Am GT have a Vehicle Anti-Theft System (VATS) that is separate from the Passlock system?

Also, what fuses should I pull on the security system to reset it?

By the way, does the 2002 have the Passlock 1 or 2 system?

Thanks!

Nope. No vehicle security system. Only the passlock system. There aren't any fuses involved in it. It's completely self contained in the key cylinder and computer systems in the car. See my explanation in your other thread.

No idea if it's passlock 1 or 2. I've never heard of any distinction in passlock systems and it doesn't say anything about it in the service manual.

Okay, I've installed the Passlock bypass, the resistor method, and it's very simple. I still can't get the car to crank however, so I've ruled out the Passlock defect.

Did you try replacing the ignition switch yet like I told you in the other thread?

Please refer to this thread for a discussion on how to diagnose a starter/solenoid that dies with very little warning.
