Car audio is giving me a headache, Help

K, I want a new HU, but this whole DIN $hit is confusing me.. I could prolly wire a rocket to my car, and make it fly before I could figure this audio stuff out. ok, I read the stock monsoon HU on the 99' GA is 1.5 Din. Does that mean that the space left after u take it out is 1.5? Also, how do I know what size an after market HU is? I want this Aiwa HU, to match up with my aiwa cd changer, but I dunno what DIN size it is, also, I want a lil cubby hole to be left underneath it so I can put it an LCD and slide it out. Anyone can help solve this mystery?

The 99's where the pre monsoons I think.....I have an '01 and I needed the 1.5, no sure what you need...But I know there is a little slot in mine underneath the face place...I put my air freshener in there..:D

K, just called aiwa, and they said the x927M HU i want is 1 DIN, which means that there will be a space left. Is that enough to have a lil cubby hole? damn this DIN crap...

well, i kno the one I have in there is a monsoon, and it's a 99'. I saw the crutchfield manual and said it was a 1.5. I thought the 01's and 02's where double dins?

tony you have 2dins, black you have 1.5 din

a din is a measure of space, most after market HU's are 1 din, you'll see that your aftermarket is 66% of the size of the stock HU.

you will have enuf room for a little cubby hole thing, but it wont be as big as tonys

Wish i had a camera i would show you mine I have the 99 too. I didnt use the cubby hole thing. Do you plan on flush mounting this thing???

the reason that I wanted the lil cubby hole thing was so that I could mount a flat lcd screen, maybe like a 5.6 or something in the lil cubby, and pull/slide it out when I wanted to. I dunno, I'm thinking that I won't find a metra kit that is 1.5 that comes with a lil cubby hole thing. I dunno, gotta keep looking. Oh yeah, I also found out that the stock radio on the 99 is a delco and not a monsoon, I'm stupid. K.

Yeah it is a Delco and i really dont think you have enogh room. you might get 3/8" maybe. If you want to flush mount it you have to do some surgery too. Not to fun.

You could get a little storage spot, or an EQ or something in there - but no way a slide-out scren is going in that spot. Sorry....
