hey everyone i'm not sure if i asked this previously on the old board but it is really ****ing me off now.
the title says it all. i think the two problems are related. i wonder if anyone else has had the same problem so i can fix it myself if possible.
Sometimes when i put it in drive or reverse and move slowly and turn the wheel slightly the car goes out of power steering (loose wheel) and the ((ABS)) and TRAC OFF come on. Also, I can't get rid of the friggin check tire pressure lamp. even after resetting it.
grr, i don't want to take time off work and i don't want to spend $300 on diagnostics of my abs system, but i might have to.

Combination of messed up computer and faulty speed sensor?

argh, this is what i am putting off. getting the cpu checked.
but that makes sense tho that if the speed sensor for say one wheel got busted that:
1. the speed of that wheel would be incorrect and be sent to the cpu and the abs, etc comes on cause the cpu thinks the wheel is either stopped or not spinning fast enough.
2. tire pressure is sensed by speed of the shaft right?
i am pretty sure now after thinking about it that i have a bad front sensor, just have to take it in to pontiac and tell them my prob and see what happens.
argh.

It's probably a bad wheel bearing assembly. The ABS sensor is made into the bearing, and gives faulty readings when the bearing wears out. I believe this was on the old forum. It usually happened at low speeds while turning all the way. Almost any shop could diagnose a bad wheel bearing, and you can buy them at almost any parts store now. The last time I checked at Autozone they were around $60.00 each. Good luck :thumbs:
PS- Yes, the Tire Pressure sensor uses the tire revolutions per minute (as measured by the ABS sensors) to calculate differences in tire diameters. It's not the best system, and was prone to lots of false alarms. That's why only the 99 GAGT's had it. (But we didn't get a 5th cupholder!:()

Well, almost any shop. I took mine to a local Firestone, they diagnosed it for free:D . It's good to know people.

Follow-Up -->
Took the car to a shop today and explained my probs.
Guy there popped off the ABS harness and water came pouring out he said. he cleaned it out and greased it and put it back together. reset tire light. viola. bearings checked out fine. squeaking is from brakes, he said.
whew, that was a relief.
what was funny too was after he explained all this he was asking about the gauges and the interior and was telling me how cool it looked and everything. he was smiling like i guess since he got to test drive my baby.

Hey, well my left front hub is bad, so i went to murrys and bought 1, well i put it on and abs lights gos away so im all happy, well i start driving and i hear a clicking sound, then it becomes scraping. so i take off the tire and the damn bearing is lose, there is play in the hub. So i take it back and get the new one and put it on, the same thing, they are pieces of ****, i may just get the oem hub off of gmpartsdirect, because if you look at the one i bought there is play in the hub. =/
