Heater Blower Inoperative or Water on Passenger Floor (Install Sealing Strip)
1999-2001 Oldsmobile Alero

1999-2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Condition
Some customers may comment that water drips on the front passenger floor or that the heater blower is inoperative in cold weather.

Cause
This condition may be caused by water entering the fresh air inlet to the HVAC case due to poor sealing of the air inlet screen to the fresh air inlet opening.

Correction
Open the hood and remove the windshield wiper arms.

Remove the air inlet screen panel and replace the foam seal. Refer to illustration above.
Inspect the cowl drain holes located at each end of the cowl. They should be open and free of debris.
Reinstall the air inlet screen.

Make sure the lip on the lower windshield lace sits on top of the air inlet screen panel when installing the air inlet screen.
Reinstall the windshield wiper arms.

my gm dealer last year offered 2 opitions one replace the foam which the leak my come back in time or a better fix altough strange to me . was i under the plastic wiper cowling they glued down a metal plate about the size of a license plate which they glued just under the plastic wiper cowling area in alignment with the air inlet area.

i think what they said was it redirects the water flow to the left and right of the area of the air inlet . they said they normally take a plastic license plate and duct tape it down above the inlet area . i thought that cheapened the car and reminder me of the re green tv show.

so i asked they make the plate out of metal and paint it. it was done around july 06.

no water yet except odd time pressure washing it creaps under passenger door over kick plate . the rubber door molding looks okay and that flat rubber ridge pattern designed step in piece below rubber door molding with the curved down edge looks okay . i did have that replace at on point before after 33,000 klms or 40,to 60 klms under warranty either way. is it that again .

not alway but high pressure wash or cash wash or me drowning the car ( i tend to do ) then water gathers in the groove of the door molding til it builds up enough to then start to flow over top of grey vinyl kick plate the runs down onto carpet. i see how it gets in and have photo's of it doing so. gm tellls me they need to take off inner door panel and replace a drip channel that i gues deflect or redirects water vcoming down the door window area.

my water that i do get in the way i describe may either becoming threw window channel area like they say ??? or just running along the rubber door seal til it finds theat area of the door molding , to over flow over the door molding and then kick panel. drain holes in door look clear and would think it would take care of the water that normally comes threw window molding area.
