changing valve guide seal.
hey guys,,,been a while,,,hope all is good.
have a little question on valve seal replacement.
someone told me that you can do this by pumping up
the pressure in the cylinder an as long as its not
leaking down you can comprees the spring an remove the
clip an change the seal without pulling the head.
now you might be thinkin im crazy for asking this but :leg
is it true?

Put a rope in the spark plug hole.
With that being said it is going to be a pain trying to remove the springs with the heads on.

thanks phil,, something to think about versus
pulling the heads.

I know on an old 350 I did this then again there is more room under the hood. I put the air compressor into the spark plug hole (threaded end) built up some pressure, then I could change the seals for those valves as the air pressure held the valve closed. But its gonna be a PITA to get the back three.

Yes, you can hold up valves with air pressure. I've done this more than once. You need to make sure the cylinder you are working on is at top dead center on the compression stroke first, so the valves will be closed when you start. Also that way if the valve did open, it won't drop into the cylinder because it would hit the piston first. ;)
