Would this cause your car to get poor mileage?

Just did mine this last weekend @ 110,000km's. Flushed out the coolant system and am now running green anti-freeze.

2000 Grand Am SE just replaced my LIM at 84,000 with the help of this forum. I got it all back together and the fuel line was leaking. I had replaced the O-ring when i took it apart it just got cut when I put it back together. But I had hurt my Back and couldn't work on it so i Took it to the dealer. They Charged me $380 to replace two O-rings and the radiator Cap. Parts total was $20.00 All said and done i still got everything done for just under $700 with having my screw up fixed. But i replaced the spark plugs, wires, temp sensor. and a few other general maintenance items. I figured i do everything i could while i had it apart.

Hey Homeskillit.... funny you mention this... i was doing my LIM gaskets way back when... also had a leaky oring... couldnt find any orings local... also worried about gas on the oring and it getting eaten by the solvent... well had to head to the dealer... they charged me $21 for an "O-ring Kit"... oh and in the "KIT" was 2 orings... what a rip... we pay about $0.25 for orings at work, but I needd it then and paid thru the butt for it... not happy not happy at all... :(

where does the fuel line at that had a bad o-ring? it seems i can smell gas or something similar when i am in the car at times and i have no idea where it is coming from.

Lower Intake Manifold Gasket

Hi,

I purchased my 2002 Grand Am GT new. Since then, with only 23,000 miles on the engine, running mobil 1 synthetic, I have had to take my car to the dealership twice for the LIM gasket replacement. The first time, it leaked within a few months then it finally blew at only 7,000 miles since it was initially repaired. Poor design, and I was told the 3.5 G6 engine uses the same manifold design, so look out for that.

well its my understanding that the 03 had a revised gasket that didnt leak, so id assume the G6 would have a revised gasket design as well.

MMGT1 03-08-2006 01:31 AM

Have had mine done twice before enngine mods

We have had probably 40-50 of our G6 V6's in our rental fleet need the intake gasket redone already- they have started leaking anywhere between 4,000 miles and 20,000 miles. I thought it would have been fixed too, but apparantly not.

nascarnate326 03-08-2006 06:30 AM

I had mine changed at 123k miles. 99 Ga se2.

I thought they fixed the problem in 03 as well. Owell. Amazing a problem like this goes unfixed for such a great looking car(g6)

kse73 03-08-2006 07:16 AM

Car has 35k miles on it..... Replaced it twice.

slowbird 03-08-2006 12:37 PM

I looked through and didn't see any...

But anyone with a 2004-2005 Grand Am have the Leak?

My car has 45,000kms on her so far.

3500's or 3900's? I would assume they're the 3500's becuase they're practically the same as the 3400. I'm willing to be the 3900's aren't having the problem.

Had my intake gaskets replaced on my 1999 GT1 last weekend at 95k miles. Its been leaking for the last 8k miles, only outside the engine and not the more serious internal leak. Got a 12k mile warranty from the small shop I had it done at. It started leaking a couple thousand miles after I switched to Royal Purple synthetic. Whatever sludge or gunk was holding it together must have been loosened.

I have a 99 GT with 130k and it been leaking (ever so slightly) since i got the car two years and 30k miles ago. Within the last couple months it has been getting worse. Nothing has shown up in any oil over the last two years so i've been extremely lucky. Tonight i decided i had better order the kit. I found a felpro kit for $70 on ebay. The seller was auctionfrontier and he sold kits for all types of cars so he'll be sure to have more if someone needs one.

Anyone have any have any advice on what other maintenance to do while i have it torn apart? I've already done thermostat and water pump core. I plan on plugs, wires and coolant flush while it's apart. Any other suggestions?

Are the head bolts necessary? They come up as $25 at autozone. I tried to find the set cheaper online but with shipping it always comes out at about the same price as autozone. Anyone know a cheap place to buy a set.. if they're truly needed.
