I started in the Mustang world at the age of 16 when I bought my first Mustang. It was a 97 Rio red stang. I loved it to death.

My mods include 17x9 Cobra R in Pirelli 255/40's, K&N filter, Steeda Pullies, MAC catback exhaust. Im awaiting install of my nitrous kit I just bought yesterday actually.

Steve (the guys car you saw) is currently working on a web page for our car club, 1 kwik krew. All the Saleens you see in the background are in the club. Steve has a sh!tload of pics on his digital taken from the woodward dream cruise this past august. As soon as he gets the site running I will be sure to sned you the link.

I'm sorry but you are WRONG when it comes to cars
You are saying that a supercharged grand am can hang with a COBRA? wtf uhhhhh not in this lifetime my friend

The best supercharged GA i have seen was running low 14's
A stock mustang GT can run high to mid 13's depending on weather, traction and all that other good stuff

Now a stock GT has 260hp at the crank, the '99-'02 cobra has 320 and the '03 has 390

Now a supercharged grand am is getting maybe 250hp

Do the math, face the facts, and quit smokin whatever it is you are smokin :D

mr_eh 10-16-2003 10:02 AM

a cobra can go mid to high 12s, a supercharged grand am w/ other mods (still less then the price of a cobra) can do low 14s... i said it could hang with it, not beat it...

You said everything I wanted to say. I was just to lazy to type it out. Yea a S/C Grand AM vs. 03 Cobra.

Some people here are using the ricer mentality. NOS stickers add HP don't they?

Keep posting, please.

But I can't stand taking a corner fast in a FWD car.

It can unless the Cobra is an 03. I have personally witnessed a Grand Prix GTP at the track take down an 01 Cobra. Then again that GTP took down an LT1 6-speed Camaro Z28 that was reasonbly modded (headders, ex, intake).

OK .. here are some more facts and math... you forgot power loss is greater through the drivetrain with RWD. That's why a stock automatic V6 GTP family sedan with 240HP can take down or hang with a 5-speed 260HP V8 Mustang GT.

Another thing you forgot is traction... 1/4 times don't tell the whoe story in the case of a SC Grand Am... from a roll I would bet $$ that a 320HP Cobra would have a time with a supercharged GA. THAT'S embaressing for the driver of the Cobra. I'd be embaressed havnig a hard time shaking a Grand Am in ANY sports car.

It has NOTHING to do with RWD or FWD. it has to do with suspension and on some FWD cars it has to do with engine mounts.

The GTP obviously wasnt stock (even with the sc)

I did mention traction, read it again :p
My money would be on the cobra from a roll or a stop

mr_eh 10-16-2003 10:32 AM

...i still stand by what i said a supercharged + lightly modded grand am could `hang` with a cobra ... when you define hang as beat it and i define it at staying within 2-3 car lengths...

RAMAIRGT1 10-16-2003 10:35 AM

2-3 car lengths is hanging? thats getting your a$$ kicked!
Hanging is at least at the rear bumper

**** my ga stay 3 car lengths behind a camaro for peets sake, i dont think of that as hangin with it lol

My point is that it would be humiliatingly close. Kinda like seeing some old beat up Ford Maverick hanging with Z06 or something.

mr_eh 10-16-2003 10:40 AM

^ exactly

Neither was the Cobra or the LT1 Camaro. None of the cars were using nitrous oxide.

I am not trying to take sides, but why so much hatred towards Mustangs? I like them. That will be the only Ford car I would buy. ****ing off about people buying a V6 Mustang is not much different than bashing people for buying a Grand Am SE, when SE is not much cheaper than GT(especially if you want SE with V6). People like sporty cars, but not many people can afford insurance on V8 models that are gas guzzlers.

Oh and do you all know why GM decided to kill Firebirds and Camaros?

RAMAIRGT1 10-17-2003 09:49 AM

dude this thread was stopped, dont start it back up again

Black Z28 10-17-2003 10:35 AM

bottom line.... i paid about the same as a new mustang GT driver would, yet my car will own that same GT over and over again. end of story

Bottom line i paid 1/4 of what you paid for my bike and i would smoke you worse than you would beat a mustang
do i care? NO

this thread was comparing a ga to a mustang, not a mustang to a camaro

again this thread was ended, end of story

Black Z28 10-17-2003 10:58 AM

first off, how is there any comparison between a mustang and a GA? there isn't really, two totally different cars with totally different markets. Oh and go ahead and beat me with your bike... see what happens when you wreck on a bike vs a car

first of all this thread was about a v6 mustang vs a GA, then somehow it got twisted, You are comparing a 350V8 to a 281V8, i would hope you would win

and second of all ive already been down on a bike so i know how it feels, plus that has nothing to do with getting smoked

Just end it already lol

Black Z28 10-17-2003 11:05 AM

k, over

TorchStang3.8 10-17-2003 12:21 PM

Couples things:
From what I heard, a nice built supercharged Grand Am GT that I met at this meeting in Sterling Heights dynod 227 or so. Mustang V6s can get that with bolt ons alone, every single bolt on to do it, but just saying. Second, from what I have heard- GAGT > GPGT and a Mustang v6 is = GAGT so that would make a Mustang v6 > GPGT. I am thinking in terms of 1/4 stock times.
Second- to make this fair, MSZ (Mike) had a 97 v6 and then WON a Mustang GT automatic for FREE at an auto show. Only payed a thousand or so for tax, so he can't BLING like he has that kind of cash to buy and maintain a V8. Once again he won it. Sorry Mike.
Now if any of this makes a difference or not, I'll see you guys on the street because I'm tired of this thread, happens a lot.

v6 Mustang = 15.3 1/4 mile for reference, that's on a manual like I have. Automatics are high 15s or low 16s, Ford Automatics suck huge balls. Mike's automatic v8 runs high 14's so if anyone wants to try him out, go for it.

Dyno 's are nice... previous gen GTP's are 240 crank HP and Mustang GT's are 260... yet GTP's with automatics and FWD can hang with Mustang GT's. So you see you will never win a race with numbers.

V6 Mustang on a GOOD PERFECT DAY with a PERFECT DRIVER MIGHT run a 15.3... what I have seen on average from owners is 15.5-15.9 with the 5-speed. Automatics are in the 16's unless modded. Quit trying to milk up the times.

There was/is a guy on here that ran a 15.2 stock with a Grand Am GT... so now all Grand Am GT's run 15.2 stock? NO... don't try and BS....
