A friend of mine with the exact same car and tinted windows got his window blown out and his radar detector stolen while his car was parked in his driveway, and that was in Rochester. Oh well, sh!t happens.... -joe |

hey guys, i'm gonna buy the KYB Struts and Intrax Springs in like the next few days. My auto-tech teacher was being a bitch and said i couldn't install them there cause we are modifying the suspension he was like oh u need a camber kit blah blah and it ****ed the hell out of me. cause i know i don't need a camber kit, i'm just gonna tell him my springs and struts are shot so i'm gonna change em. but it seems like a relatively easy job and i hope it is. with the KYB struts should i try them without the washer first or should i go out and buy them?? luckily i'll have air tools and a spring compressor and i'll be doing it on a lift so it will be nice.
a few questions, should i get boots too? are they neccessary? and if they crackle and pop i'm gonna need to get new bushings. but if you have any words of advice i'd apprecaite it. Thanks guys - |

damn i'm hoping it won't take that long... what took forever? it seems easy on the how-to.
|
it shouldnt take that long, but we kept running into problems removing the stock struts in the rear and then reinstalling the kyb's. the front only took 1-2 hrs, mostly because we knew what we were doing that time around.
|
have u had any problems with the kybs?
|
I can do all 4 in about 2 hours ;), of course... I've done 3 or 4 sets of them too. It really shouldn't take that long. Especially with a lift and the right tools. Stock mounts and boots will work. The KYB boots are just a nice little extra but more money and not necessary. Make sure to remember to trim the bump stops in the stock boots before you re-install them. Also, I've never had a problem with my KYB's, but some people have, so you might as well install the washers while you're doing it. There is enough thread on the shaft to put them under the nut, and washers are cheap. Just make sure and get the right size. Should be a big diameter without a hole too much larger than the shaft, and not too thin. Probably could find some that will work at home depot. Other than that it's pretty straight forward. Install 'em and get it alligned. They can do it just fine, and a camber kit is NOT required. Tell your shop teacher he's smokin' something. lol
|
lol that is funny yeah he said today that we can do it and i'm going to order the intrax springs tomorrow and kyb struts and boots. hopefully the install will go smooth, and we won't run into any problems, i'll probably do the back one day it depends on how fast we can do it... and then the front the next but i hope i can do that ****. imma print the how-to and then i'm sure i will get help from my shop teachers
i'm not gonna install the washers, but if i need to i will |
FYI, if you do order the KTB boots, they are not two piece like the stockers. Stock is a plastic boot with a foam rubber bump stop slid inside it. The KYB is a one piece rubber boot with the bump stop incorporated into it (molded as one), therefore you can't trim the bottom of the bump stop as required. I trimmed the top of the bump stop instead, but you can't take off as much as instructed because the top snaps into the top strut mount plate and you have to leave enough on it. It's not a big deal though. You can cut off about 3mm with a hacksaw and they will work fine.

right now i have no idea what ur talking about but i hope i will when i get them in my hands
