yeah his family is nuts... his dad has a red 96 mustang GT (400 horse) and his brother had a 98 mustang cobra, totalled it, got a yellow WRX... then sold it to his grandparents (which i might add is quite funny seeing them in a tricked out wrx that is rediculously fast.) his grandparents also live with them so he can drive it whenever he wants. NOW he lives in california and has a black 96 cobra with side pipes. and he has the eclipse. they have a "need for speed."
i have seen that car its pretty tight
cant bet my friend she just got a brand new cayenne S |
hey Aaron, i just got a question. I would like to make things run smoothly because i really only have like 2 hours to do either the back or the front. I decided to do the spring/strut assembly in the back first cause it will be easier. my question is about the kyb boots, should i like shave off what u said to shave off so it makes it easier and they will fit. cause i don't want a little thing to like take up 30 minutes, i just wanna make sure it runs smoothly so i don't need to leave my car there over night cause i will be ****ED. so do i shave off the top part of the boot?? Thanks for your help Aaron.
They'll fit without shaving anything off. It's just that the eibach directions call for cutting like 10mm off the bump stops, just to make sure you aren't hitting them too often and to keep more suspension travel with the car lowered. Like I said, with the KYB boots being all one piece you can only cut off of the top of the bump stop instead of the bottom (which is inside the boot), so you can only take off like 5-6mm. I doubt 5mm will make much difference on a street car that doesn't see any track time, so you could probably leave them as is. If you do want to trime them, a hack saw goes thru pretty easy, and it only take a couple minutes.
k thanks a lot Aaron, i'll update you on what happens this next week ...
well the update is... i have the REARS on... but the problem is i have the strut boot upside down ;/ hahaha so tomorrow i have to fix that definitely and then thursday it's the fronts... blah that ****es the **** out of me, i hate spring compressors. i'm gonnah ave to take all that **** apart again too that sucks. well you learn. Aaron, having the shaft LITTlE exposed is for like 24 hours, is that a big deal?
Might be ok... one question though... how'd you put the boot on upside down? :D
Really though, it should be ok. Just try not to get them dirty as much as possible and clean the shafts off when you re-install them. The boots aren't exactly air and water tight to begin with so they get some dirt on them anyway over time. It's just to protect the shaft from the big stuff that might chip or scratch the shaft surface which could make the seals leak. |
oh well, i'm alright... don't ask how i ahve the boot upside down... hahah believe me i was wondering why the boot was SUCH a bitch...but really i went in to shop class today not knowing one thing about putting on springs and i just messed up the boot but its ok.
well from all the stuff i learned yesterday, i decided to do the fronts today and then fix the backs tomorrow but anyways, they are on and i love the ride. the clunking is there yes still but it's not as bad as it was with my stock setup. i think my front mounts are shot.
hey Aaron, if i don't replace the mounts for a little while it won't hurt the strut will it? |
It shouldn't hurt the strut. Can't say much about the mounts though, being as I've never had any problems with mine. It's really not a common problem in fact, they hardly ever replace any at the dealer my dad works at. I'd really try the washer under the nut on top and see if that makes if go away.
i mean as long as theres no damage involved then i dont care. the springs are making there breaking in noises though i'll tell you that :D
Steve (ndprunner) and i are getting our windows tinted this wednesday and thursday at Custom Effects... we'll post pictures after its done. GIGGITY!
J$$ |
I hate Joe but i pretend to be his friend so he wont kill himself
Steve is a douche, he likes guys and his GA is a piece.
that will be awesome guys can't wait to see.
joe - your next mod should be the SC/T kit it looks so hot on orange. steve you should get the SC/T Kit and rims as well it would look awesome |
i know, that sc/t kit is so badass, but painted its something like... $1300....and i have to think about college next year :(
oh yeah i just remembered, im selling my old stock tires to anyone who needs a good cheap set- check it:
http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48939 |
looks like joe is gettin SLP and DS S3 CAI...GIGGITY!
EDIT - what are your guy's thoughts on getting rid of the resonator? (and how tough is it?) |
i got rid of my resonator when i put the magnaflows on. it's super easy...it gets chopped off and replaced by a straight pipe...any shop could do it in 5 minutes
i thought the slp piping comes resonator-less
yeah, slp comes with no resonator. Has 2.5" mandrel bent pipig thru out. Only thing is it comes with a 2.25" flange for bolting up to the stock cat. If you switch to a high flow cat with a 2.5" outlet thought you can cut it off and have a 2.5" flange welded on. It's not a big deal until you change the cat though.

joe am selling my SLP let me know if you want it :) |
i just bought a year old SLP and S3 intake off of BoyZero for $425 shipped, so im good to go (but thanks for the offer Joe). I didnt know whether or not the slp had a resonator, i just assumed it did. a buddy of mine took his cat off completely, any ideas?
yeah get some pictures up of the tints and then lets meet when you get all that installed :)
Don't take the cat off completely. It will be obnoxiously loud and will not sound good. There's not much gain to be had from it anyway on a car without headers, and high flow cat will work just as well as no cat, and without polluting. No need to run without a cat on a daily driven car.

blah now i have a leak!! sun of bi0tch i think it's my window seal
steve (ndprunner22) got busted for tinted windows today by a state trooper - only a week with the tint on and hes popped... was this a good idea?
was he speeding?
if you dont do anything wrong you shouldnt just randomly get pulled over
he had tint on, thats an infraction right there. i bet he was speeding or doing something stupid to cause the officer to take notice and pull him over for another infraction. i've never been pulled over just for tint.
The state just passed some new legislation that is cracking down on tinted windows. So that might be part of it.
Doctors notes must now be approved by the state. If you get approved you must be driving in a car with tints at ALL times If you get pulled over in a car without tints you lose your exception Also I have heard that OCS is goign to start cracking down on tinted windows, so be on the look out, and don't do anything stupid that will give you away aka speeding! |
thanks ryan, i'm gonna have to get the state information. and then could i legally tint my parents cars?
basically i need to get a doctors note, and then show up at the secretary of state saying they need to get this approved so i can legally have window tint? i need to get this done or i'm probably gonna have to take it off soon which will suck. I love having tint because i just feel more private.
another question is if i get my parents cars tinted ( i drive them all the time ) and they get pulled over is it ok? i like tint and i would love to have it on all the cars, i just need to get a doctors note. |
the story
ok was driving at normal speed seriously nice and normal and i am going over an overpass. I see a state trooper on the merger ahead and i just change lanes to hope i dont line up next to him. Then my luck strikes the 3 ppl next to me merge on 1-75 from baldwin and im sitting there with this cop next to me. The light is red and im just sitting there praying. Look at the lights is green. i like nice. look in the rear view and red flashers. i was like ok maybe its just retiuen so i put down my windows*(mistake) he comes up and i say was i doing anything wrong sir??
and he goes " Im tired of kids like you tring to hide your tints, i saw your tints way back over the overpass. So then i just admit, ok sir im sorry i have had the tints for a while and recently found out their illegalness. then he writes me a ticket. he come back and says im giving you this for reason, because you tried to hide the tints. He is like i would have given you waring but now your gettin the ticket. My outtake: He was a ****-State Trooper coming off the highway only pulled me over cuz i was right next to him he was lieing about the warning because i asked at the begininng and he didnt budge. Either way if you get pulledover keep windows up and say you have had the tints since you got the car in another state. * I had them for a week*i guess the fine is waived if i remove the tint and have it inspected by an officer. sounds good no points or fines, just 20 bucks to get the sides off |
