Transmission Powerflush @ 80K?
 

I have never had an issue my with transmission, but I've never touched the thing either. I'll be moving to Florida in June and I figured it might be a good time to get the transmission flushed. My local dealer offers a "Powerflush" service for $120.

Should I get it done, or is this one of those things that if it isn't broken, don't fix it?

I can't do a powerflush because I do not have the machine... People have told me that a basic drain and fill can actually do more harm than good in some cases; where a force flush will remove any crap that's left inside the tranny.

Is this true?

Actually, I heard the other way around. Supposedly those metal shavings help the tranny shift better. If you remove them you create more slip. Don't know how much truth is in that statement, but that's what I've been told.

Man this is messed up, thanks for your input. Can anybody with direct experience chime in?

I've pwer flushed my oil @ 50K and I can tell you my tranny was noticeably quieter and smoother after doing that! I totally suggest you do it! I would shop around for it though.

Sorry Ryan, for some reason I thought you meant coolant flush.
But even for tranny,all I did was change the fluid, drain and fill. But I have a 5 speed. And everyone else I know when the auto just drained and filled. If you have the 120 to toss at it, go ahead.

No problemo. I really don't want to spend $120 on anything right now... but I need my car to last me a little longer.

I'm almost at 50 k and I'm under all those conditions, i havent touced the trainny either but is gettin to the point when it shifts gears it gets jumpy, i really dont wanan pay 100 for that i might do it my self but i heard is not recomended..

Well any change of oil + filter + gasket is better than doing none so even if you have to do it yourself try and get it done if you want to maximize the life of your transmission. I don't see why you shouldn't do it yourself?

THe tranny flush is a much better fluid change, if you have the $$$ get that done, your tranny will thank you for it by not blowint up. If you only have a few $$$ draining and filling will be better than doing nothing at all. Most important thing in either senerio is to change the filter and clean the metal shavings off the magnet in the pan.

Just got back from the dealship. They did the full powerflush, with a filter change for 120. And I got to say it made a difference! The car shifts a lot faster, and smoother than before. Which to me means it needed a change and was well worth the money.
