2.4 to a 3.4
I have a 99 GA SE with a 2.4 that I'm giving to my son, but thinking about converting it to a 3.4 V6 instead. Anyone do this yet? I know I would have to change trans, harness, pcm, bcm,cv shafts too! anyone have any other input besides just buy one with V6 already installed- 99 paid off long time ago! :molson:

turbo it, theres a way bigger aftermarket for that motor then the 3400. i think for the cost of the swap you can make your 2.4 run what a stock 3400 car would.
Thanks, I thought it was the that way for the 3.4
Save the money and put it into the 2.4. A 2.4 modded to 3.4 power will still probably have less problems.
Just wondering - Like what is there for that motor than just a turbo? cause I was thinking of buying a wrecked GT (REAR) and sticking it (motor/trans/stuff)in the SE for about $800. Anybody atempt this yet -how about you guru's?
A custom turbo with a tune job? I'd guess 3,000-4,000, depending on where you go.
You could also just slap on a GM supercharger. It says its for 2000 to 2002 2.4's but I have seen people make it work on other 2.4 engines. The kit is only about $2000USD, I'm always surprised that more 2.4TC GA owners don't go this route.:)

quick question
I was just wanting some more info on the 2.4 supercharger. i have a99 se and plan on supercharging it this winter cost permitting....how much horsepower dose the kit put out and dose it come w/everything i need
I think it's somewhere in the 40-60 HP range, depending on how many PSI you run. I could be totally off, though.
The GM charger takes the LD9 from 150hp to 190hp, this is on 4psi or so, you can easliy bump the power up with a smaller pulley and run about 8psi. also for all you guys with the 2.4 check out www.quad4forums.com it is THE best place for info on the motor.
^Correct.
But, on a 99 you're on your own for fuel mods and tuning tho. The included injectors, 2 bar MAP sensor and PCM reprogram cannot be used. You'll also need a 2000-2001 starter to swap on for clearance. Might not wanna wait on the supercharger... word is the excess stock of the poor-selling kit has already been destroyed and only a few units remain in the hands of resellers. |
im pretty new to this site i have a 1997 grand am GT everythings all original just did some interior detailing thats all. but anyways i dont even know where to get started with this car. does anyone know of any sites for parts or something? and is it worth putting in all the money to fix it up? it is a 97 with 102k miles.
