SikMindz 04-04-2006 12:45 PM

Don't be ridiculous Matt.

Aaron got banned for whatever he said in a different thread. What grounds did I have to warn him in the first place?

I should warn you though. Your slate is too clean.

Not meant to be? You're still getting your hood aren't you?

Bouchie11982 04-08-2006 08:28 AM

No I got another hood for a good deal.

AaronGTR 04-10-2006 04:23 PM

Now that the ultrasupergayban is over I can correct you on a few things...

I'm not going to argue back and forth with you because I know how you are and there's no changing or budging your opinion. My point being is that this hood is no less structurally sound than any other fiberglass hood on the market for our cars.

Actually your statement about weight was baseless from the start. You're correct the CF hoods are supposed to be light, but this hood isn't light. When I got mine it was 23lbs out of the box with no work done. My SD hood was 28lbs after filling and smoothing everything and primer/paint. Where's the big weight diff? I'll tell you where, it's in the use of less fiberglass and improper bonding material. A "real" CF hood that was made for light weight and uses multiple ply's of CF would only weigh about 12lbs for a GA, not 23lbs.

Quote:

Point being is that neither the fiberglass nor CF hood are any different in regards to their integrity.
How would you know? Do you own any hoods other than the cerious one? Didn't think so... in which case you are hardly qualified to make those kinds of statements. I've owned three different hoods for my car including cerious and the SD. I've seen every hood available for this car up close in person except for the a*d hood. I've tried more parts on my car than 90% of the people on this site so I would hope my opinion carries a little weight around here.

The simple fact is that the SD hood is much MUCH stronger. Mine was thru two accidents and it's still in better shape than my cerious. If it wasn't for the fact I think the SC/T looks better with my kit I'd be repairing that one instead. The last accident was bad enough for the insurance to total the car but all that happened to the hood was the latch ripped out of the bottom. The rest of the hood didn't crack at all the both sides are still bonded together like they should be! Thats proper construction. I'm glad I only paid half price for my cerious hood because thats all it was worth.

I know cerious has made a bunch of parts for you so you probably feel like you need to defend them and all. I don't really care though. I'm not here to kiss up to some company just because they make some stuff for the GA. I tell the facts as I see them so people can make an educated decision. If you don't agree with me so be it, but I'm not going to just keep quiet when I think people are getting ripped off on quality. And now I'm done on this topic.

monthly update

Here's the email I just received from Linda:
Quote:

Well, we found a aerospace company in canada that has the carbon we need in the right weave and width. We are currently in negotiations for the best price, and hope to have this resolved shortly.

Grand_Damn 04-25-2006 07:13 PM

woohoo...just in time...i'll be back in the USA. Hopefully it goes well, i can't wait.

SikMindz 04-25-2006 07:16 PM

rickhigginshtbr 04-25-2006 08:04 PM

SikMindz 04-25-2006 08:07 PM

YAY! There is hope. The sooner the better, because I have almost gotten all my other planned mods done. If I don't get this hood soon I may get bored. :meh:

Ajaxus 04-30-2006 12:31 AM

No. It's 8. Sik has one as do I.

lightningGA 05-19-2006 05:03 AM

Here's the reply I got from Cerious on Wed.:

Quote:

The price we have been quoted is unbelieveably high, so either we will have to raise the price of each hood or find a different supplier(we have one lined up in the U.S., another small carbon manufacturer that has hoarded a few rolls)We are still in negotiations for a lower price, on the roll, but if it doesn't work out by Friday we will go with the company in the US.

Mendoza 05-19-2006 07:24 AM

I feel sorry for all you guys waiting on this hood.

Bouchie11982 05-19-2006 11:50 AM

rickhigginshtbr 05-19-2006 03:28 PM

Yeah I feel sorry for myself too. I am missing out on good cruising and show off time because of this wait. Someone please sell them some good CF so we can get our hoods and be happy.

Nuff said.

Grand_Damn 05-22-2006 10:35 AM

man, if they do raise the price, then i will most likely drop out and pick up a fiberglass one.

Seeing the only reason i was planning to buy this one in the first place cause it was cheaper then the fiberglass version.

SikMindz 05-22-2006 10:40 AM

I feel for all you guys. This sucks...I'm having a hard time with any vendor trying to get new CF stuff out. Damn gov't contracts...

*sigh*

rickhigginshtbr 05-22-2006 01:41 PM

cerious did say they'd do them up in fiberglass for those not wanting to wait for $500...

right....BUT...for those that want the SD hood, Cerious doesn't have the mold ready for it, so you'll probabyl be waiting as well. (i've been there, it was a month until i found out they didn't have one, after i ordered for one)

videoman 05-26-2006 09:52 AM

Well I have been forced to make a hard decision. Due to certain circumstances, I will have to put a deadline on my wait. I will give them about another week and a bit, to offer news on a start ptoduction date. After that I will have to withdraw my spot. I know I will probly get flamed for this but I have had patience for this, since I have been waiting since last year.

SikMindz 05-26-2006 09:56 AM

I'm sure they'll understand. They're losing a lot of business 'cause of the shortage as are most aftermarket companies. I'm working on the fiberglass versions of the hoods for you guys but I haven't heard anything back yet.

Grand_Damn 05-26-2006 12:57 PM

what would be the price of the fiberglass version?

rickhigginshtbr 05-26-2006 02:42 PM

i was told awhile back that the fiberglass versions are going to be $500... i wanted to paint mine when it was done, but leave going into the scoops and out of the scoops in CF, i wonder if they have a wide enough strip just to do that and leave the rest fiberglass...

An excerpt from an email I got back from them today.

rennation 06-02-2006 06:48 PM

well if they make fiberglass ones i may be interested...

lironet 06-02-2006 09:01 PM

It's good to hear that you guys/girls will finally be getting your hoods. I don't think you will be disappointed with the product.

From the looks of things, the first piece should ship in about 3 weeks. As long as the prototype comes in looking good.

Considering the hood they make now IS a fiberglass hood with just a single layer of CF on top they should be able to do that pretty fast. In fact they should have been able to make fiberglass only hoods and have them out to you guys that are interested already before the CF hoods with the shortage.
