Tire Mileage

Just outta curosity any round about #'s on how many miles you should get outta our stock tires with normal use. I have 27k on my car and mine are bald. A few people told me i should have gotten at least another 4k - 6k on them.

I got 55,000 miles out of the RSA's. Still had 5/32 of tread left, so maybe another 5 - 10K left in them, but they were very noisy so I replaced them.

Did you rotate the tires? When I bought my 2000 Grand AM GT off of a 36,000 or 36 month lease the front tires were bald. But the back tires had very minimal wear. Maybe rotating the tires isn't a very popular thing to do anymore???

I know people who usually rotate them at 20k miles and they usually get alot out of them.

My dealer 'has rotated them' least thats what the papers said when i took the car in for servicing. Anyone have any nice site saved for tire info? ( my parents are getting me tired for xmas so i'm loking for somethign nice heh.)

I think "normal tread wear" has a totally different meaning to members of this site as opposed to the rest of the world.....

:p

O, I have 72,000 miles and counting on my RSA's. They seem very hearty, there is still an aright amount of treadlife left. They weren't abused, a couple burnouts, but none were long or brutal.

I only have them on back, the fronts suffered a fatal puncture during the return from Mylun Raceway GAP02. The one's on the back now have several plugs, but are still holding up fine.

They are a good tire for all year use, but when it comes to any aggressive manouvers they will squeal in protest and give way faster than a softer tire... but they will last longer...

*I recommend Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712s. Cheap, SOFT, grippy, look great and oh yeah - CHEAP.

At Woodward Cruise I pulled the E-brake all the way....the brake torqued it to about 3k....Then dropped the pedel......More smoke than a WS-6 in a waterbox! I thought them suckers were gonna pop.....needless to say they were toast after that....My wheel wells are still full of burnt rubber:p

Alot of people don't rotate the tires. On the 96' I bought used it had 36K on it and the guy I bought it from hadn't rotated the tires once. The back ones were fine but the front were pretty bad. I rotated the tires on my new 02' at 7500 miles just like the manual says. As long as you have 2 jack stands and a jack you can do it in less than an hour. And you can clean the inside part of the wheel :)

40k out of my RSA's

GreenGT3 12-27-2002 04:51 PM

I got about 30k out of mine and that was with rotating them once. I had completely forgot about rotating the tires. I now rotate every other oil change- which is about 6,000 miles and I still have good tread on the new tires. I bought BFGoodwrench Comp T/A's they are very nice and not to expensive - $115each. Hope that helps.

I now have the Bridgestone Potenza RE910 and they are bada$$. The grip like none other and they are $88.00/tire. They are better than the stock tires. They also have RE950 which is the next step up and they similar but supposed to have a better tread design and of course came out after I got my RE910's. Go to this site

I'm at 25,000 with my RSA's and they are truly shot. Rotated 4 times, the front and backs are nearly bald, I'm working on the tread wear blocks right now. The tires were probably shot 5,000 miles ago to be honest, but I can't replace them yet, no money for that. So we'll see how long til the threads and belts are showing through.

53K on mine but I have the aweful rubbing sound that had been mentioned a hundred times from the soft sidewalls. But they still have alot of tread.

shutter27 12-28-2002 10:16 AM

I got 35K out of the original RSAs, but they lasted almost 3 years! I made sure to rotate them every 5K and they lasted nicely.

quinton 12-30-2002 05:00 PM

ive put around 10k-15k on my kumho escta supra 712's.. fronts have about 3/32 tread, and rear have around 6/32. Maybe I should finally get them rotated..

Jerlegoth 12-31-2002 09:39 AM
