If nothing else, Mark.... when we are all there, and someone wants something different- we can go get it. Not like we're going to be miles away from a grocery store lol

Iowagdam 07-15-2007 09:44 AM

Done and Done! The grills will be coming wed. and I am still deciding on which headlamps I want to go with.

GM-$179 per headlamp (ripoff)
Ebay-$120 for a set.

Regarding: Tunes/Music for the BBQ/hanging-out

I think we should have someone bring a good sounding "Boombox"; maybe with a input option for like Ipods/MP3 players & such.

I would be cheaper & better for the environment, than running someone's car all night or afternoon.
(& dumping gasoline & water into their motor oil crank case, from all that idling.)

Like when I am there.
I have in my trunk: a 18amp-hour 12V DC battery (400CCA jump starting) pack & a 115V AC 60W power inverter that can power a Boombox.

Or someone could just crank up their stereo without running the car and when the battery dies, well I'm sure there will be enough of us there to jump start a dead car. I'll let my battery run down and I always carry a set of cables.

It is their car battery & alternator, that they will be straining.

In other words:
Unless they have a deep-cycle battery, I would not recommend it.
+ the car's alternator is NOT made for charging a dead car battery.
It is made to just to maintain it charged; & the current demands when the car is running.
You WILL kill a alternator repeatly charging a car battery that is dead.

Just playing the radio in someone's car isn't gonna work. Granted some people do have really nice sound systems it'd be better sounding to just have a radio. If possible I recommend someone bringing a battery powered radio that can play cds at an acceptable level.

Mike, your power inverter, I assume it could handle a simple cd alarm clock player that plugs into an outlet right? If that's the case I'll just bring mine.

My 12V DC to 115V AC power inverter: Plugs into a cig. lighter socket & can provide up to 60W/0.5amp of power usage.

It allows me to plug in (2-blade AC plug) a cheap radio, when I got out & wash my car in the driveway.

So if your device uses less than 60W or 0.5 amp of power, it will be fine for the small power inverter that I have.

(During the big blackout of the East Coast:
I was using my battery pack & inverter to keep a 9W florescent light on at night in my living room lol)

lone_wolf025 07-15-2007 06:13 PM

Just checked. Radio uses 15W. I think that'll work.

Uh, people may want to make their reservations if they haven't done so..I just went on La Quinta Inn's website..I'm gonna be staying at the one in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin..its only 15 miles from Antioch, but that's the closest I could get.

It's actually equal distance from Antioch as the Gurnee one. I just searched for the closest one to Antioch and then it searched for the best room (straight through La Quinta's website).

Mike Jung 07-15-2007 10:09 PM

:woowoo My GA is packed.

& I am driving down to Chicago area tomorrow !

:woot: :attention :D

Here I come, to the land of cheaper gasoline.
In Toronto: Gasoline sells for $1.022 Cdn/L (about $3.77 US per US Gallon).

silvergtjrad 07-15-2007 10:32 PM

Jung if you think gas will be much cheaper in Chitown, you are in for a surprise. I live a reasonable distance from the city and its about 337 for regular right now.

To me: $3.45 US per US Gallon (& yes, I checked on the AAA mapping program) is alot cheaper than the $3.77 US per US Gallon I pay in Toronto.
(The beginning of last week in Toronto: It was $3.92 US per US Gallon.)

PS: I can't wait to fill-up coming when coming back.
Gasoline is duty free at Ammex Duty Free in Detroit, at the Ambassador Bridge

PSS: I will be that idiot Canadian, smiling when pumping up gasoline in my GA lol
