Good luck, man, be careful with those slicks.... don't want to snap an axle the first time out!

I take it that the target time wasn't reached?

He blew a head gasket, then the following week T&T was rained out.

tejohnson 03-31-2008 05:14 PM

Hrm... Guess he didn't use the Graphite gaskets eh? (Part #12589907)

I have some .060 copper gaskets that I could stand to loose from my inventory ;)

silvergtjrad 03-31-2008 05:17 PM

haha, I think hes going to pass on those if he has ever read any of your threads

BlackJack 03-31-2008 05:30 PM

I have had no problem with the coppers.

BUT....I didn't make it to track this saturday due to snapping off a mount and a torque brace not long before going. Kinda sucks when you start into an up-hill climb at about 40mph, have to hit some throttle to get it going, and it drops to 1st and hits 0-15psi in barely over a second. I'm not totally sure, but I think it might have been the sudden application of torque with experimental solid mounts?

Mounts replaced with GTP mounts now, and dogbones are going in over the course of this week. Next TnT is Friday April 11th.

Transmission is holding fine though :)

Hmm, this reminds me, if i ever boost my car, i think ill get a boost-controller module to adjust the boost on the fly. Lol

Id turn the boost down before hitting a hill to avoid your incident LOL.

But ouch to you.

I was going to use you as an example. I think my problem was just way too much copper gasket spray and little patience to mess around with them.

Not sure if you put too much or not, but I basically did them just the way you said to:

adjusted position with the guide tabs, scotch-brite and annealed them, then put about 3 good coats of spray on each side, plus masked off the cylinder bores lifter valley and water jackets and hit a light coat on the deck. It leaked coolant a little at first when it got up to operating temp, but then I shut it down, retorqued them, and it's been fine ever since.

wow there hasn't been a lot of activity on this thread as of late, what's wrong? Track season should start soon in some areas and already be active in others. So i'm surprised that there hasn't been a bunch of accomplishments or near-future plans posted during the past month.

Come on people, put up a good show :P

I know that wasn't really targeted at anyone specifically, but I'm working as fast as I can, and two of us have not been able to run the last few TnT's. Whiteboy has gotten screwed for weather, understandably....and I just flat out keep breaking shiz :slayer: (but thankfully not the transmission or engine in general)

Maybe someone should buy my car and win the pot ;)

Seriously? You would just sell it after all that, without running it yourself? Hell, let me borrow that engine, and I'll make ya famous.........

Upshift 04-01-2008 04:30 PM

lol and yeah i wasn't targeting anyone actually. And dont worry im aware that everyone has their own schedual and has been running into problems. I actually was just hoping to see if my post would stirr up any comments or activity LOL.

Dont mind me.

And yeah im very well aware of all the people here that have cars with tremendous ammount of potential, like yourself, whiteboy who is looking into rebuilding or swapping his transmition before unleashing his cars potential, Aaron could probably post decent times but his car isnt tuned yet so he, very understandably, is reluctant to drive it hard. Spyhunter, last time i checked needed a new tranny which is a shame since his car could certainly lay down one hell of a beating, And the last one that comes to mind is tim with his recently successful 6 speed swap, i can bet the shorter gear ratio's on his new tranny combined with the small mods hes done could probably hit in the mid to low 14s, all he's missing to be a fierce competitor in this challenge is a turbo and the other stuff that comes with adding one lol, but its not bad since he doesnt have to worry about the tranny anyways and if im not mistaken, he's already enhanced the engines breathing abilities.

And there's more im sure but i forget who, i'm still fairly a noob on this website so im not fully in tune in terms of who's who and all.

But yeah there are certainly a good number of drivers here that have cars that could hit in the 12's or at least come real close. It's pretty exciting from a spectator's point of view :P. And, just like Spyhunter wished, the contest seems to have motivated a few people into getting into gear with their projects, especially in the 3400 crowd. Maybe we will finally see a 3400 powered N body that will dethrone Spyhunter's 4-banger.

That's the idea.....and I think that's what he's looking for doing is getting people to step it up a notch.

From memory, I think he actually mentionned that explicitly.

So far, seems a few of the 3400 guys HAVE stepped it up a notch.

Which is a good thing because that could eventually push the aftermarket to produce more stuff for these engines :D

And also provide me witha bunch of idea's for my own alero once i get the money to put into it.

I just meant in a polite way you were giving a rehash of the whole thread and I didn't want to discourage you from posting. It's good to have someone keeping the thread going so everyone doesn't lose interest. Thank you for your enthusiasm in this event!
