Im with Jared, it would foster better competition between the members to know that they had time to build up even if someone hits the 12's before them. We could see more than one GA into the 12s this year from all the talk going around and it would be cool to see who could keep their time the lowest. Hell we might even see 11's (but thats probably wishful thinking...)

silvergtjrad 02-18-2008 04:22 PM

11s is wishful thinking, but I believe there are a couple cars out there with the potential. The biggest hurdle is getting a larger number of people to hit 12s. After that you just duplicate their setups, and you have a 12 second car. Find something you can improve on from what the last person did and things will progress naturally.

BlackJack 02-18-2008 06:58 PM

I thought the object of the game was to get people off their butts and get into the 12's sooner. So, now we wait till the end of the year for a winner? Kinda defeats the purpose of "next person into the 12's".

Up to you spy, your game.

Its still the same, and gives people a chance to actually get their car to a track before this season is over. Not just who has access to a track the soonest.

How about the first to 12s gets $100 of the pot, and the fastest of the season gets the remainder.

It is a nice suggestion.

It would have to go to a vote.

Anybody else interested in having the rewards awarded at the end of the year? To the fastest guy doing 12's or better?

How about taking it to June 15 or thereabouts? Plenty of time for the tracks to be open...After that the heat of the Summer will be here and it will be harder to run the best times. Some of us can't get down to a sea level track that easy, and even then it might be a one-time a year thing. Not to mention driving 1200 miles, and risking blowing an engine or tranny, and no way to drive back. I hope somebody gets this before the end of May, when I go down to Ky., but if you say it won't count till the end of the year is over, forget it, I won't take the risk.

Don't make me come down there!

No, he has a fully built engine. Slightly higher compression than stock too iirc. I forget all the specifics.

To those of you that now want this to be lasting all year. You have to remember this, you all already had almost 4 and a half months to get your act together. Which I would think would be plenty of time.

Granted I did put this lil idea together, but you are the people that are considering and are attempting to participate in this little game.

If one of you would make another thread with a poll in this section about having the winner of the pot be the fastest bastard doing 12's or better instead of being the first to hit 12's then do so.

We'll let that poll go for about two weeks, and we'll see which version wins out. If this new version wins out, then it'll take precedence over the original rule.

Until then the rules stay as they were in the beginning.

But wouldn't that just suck if someone like myself found another hoopty to throw my **** into, then started clicking off some low 11's, at the end of the year?

silvergtjrad 02-19-2008 01:59 PM

Im not going to try and argue to get this changed, its just a suggestion that I think would make for more and better competition.

My car will not be part of the competition and I havent donated any money to the pot. It would just be nice to see more people having time to get into the game here.

I'm not arguing over it. I like and don't like the idea. i see both sides of it. For there to be a change however there would require a group vote over which way to do it.

This is a community, and this lil challenge is community driven. I may have started it, but there have been other contributors into this pot as well.

Why don't you donate some change into the pot to help inspire?

I understand that this requires a vote in all fairness, since the competition has begun. Seeing that no one has made an attempt yet, it would be an opportune time to change rules.

Im going to propose my own challenge I think, so I have some competition and inspiration myself. Ive got $50 for anyone who hits 13s on motor in an N-body.

silvergtjrad 02-19-2008 04:26 PM

Just added $50 to the 12sec pot.

SpyhunteR 02-20-2008 04:48 PM

Anybody that wants to win this you have until Battle of the Imports in Las Vegas to do so.

silvergtjrad 03-03-2008 05:24 AM

bszopi 03-03-2008 07:09 PM

Good luck, man, be careful with those slicks.... don't want to snap an axle the first time out!

tejohnson 03-31-2008 05:05 PM

I take it that the target time wasn't reached?

He blew a head gasket, then the following week T&T was rained out.

tejohnson 03-31-2008 05:14 PM

Hrm... Guess he didn't use the Graphite gaskets eh? (Part #12589907)

I have some .060 copper gaskets that I could stand to loose from my inventory ;)

silvergtjrad 03-31-2008 05:17 PM

haha, I think hes going to pass on those if he has ever read any of your threads

BlackJack 03-31-2008 05:30 PM

I have had no problem with the coppers.

BUT....I didn't make it to track this saturday due to snapping off a mount and a torque brace not long before going. Kinda sucks when you start into an up-hill climb at about 40mph, have to hit some throttle to get it going, and it drops to 1st and hits 0-15psi in barely over a second. I'm not totally sure, but I think it might have been the sudden application of torque with experimental solid mounts?

Mounts replaced with GTP mounts now, and dogbones are going in over the course of this week. Next TnT is Friday April 11th.

Transmission is holding fine though :)

Hmm, this reminds me, if i ever boost my car, i think ill get a boost-controller module to adjust the boost on the fly. Lol

Id turn the boost down before hitting a hill to avoid your incident LOL.

But ouch to you.

I was going to use you as an example. I think my problem was just way too much copper gasket spray and little patience to mess around with them.

Not sure if you put too much or not, but I basically did them just the way you said to:

adjusted position with the guide tabs, scotch-brite and annealed them, then put about 3 good coats of spray on each side, plus masked off the cylinder bores lifter valley and water jackets and hit a light coat on the deck. It leaked coolant a little at first when it got up to operating temp, but then I shut it down, retorqued them, and it's been fine ever since.

Upshift 04-01-2008 02:38 PM

wow there hasn't been a lot of activity on this thread as of late, what's wrong? Track season should start soon in some areas and already be active in others. So i'm surprised that there hasn't been a bunch of accomplishments or near-future plans posted during the past month.

Come on people, put up a good show :P

I know that wasn't really targeted at anyone specifically, but I'm working as fast as I can, and two of us have not been able to run the last few TnT's. Whiteboy has gotten screwed for weather, understandably....and I just flat out keep breaking shiz :slayer: (but thankfully not the transmission or engine in general)

Maybe someone should buy my car and win the pot ;)

Seriously? You would just sell it after all that, without running it yourself? Hell, let me borrow that engine, and I'll make ya famous.........

Upshift 04-01-2008 04:30 PM

lol and yeah i wasn't targeting anyone actually. And dont worry im aware that everyone has their own schedual and has been running into problems. I actually was just hoping to see if my post would stirr up any comments or activity LOL.

Dont mind me.

And yeah im very well aware of all the people here that have cars with tremendous ammount of potential, like yourself, whiteboy who is looking into rebuilding or swapping his transmition before unleashing his cars potential, Aaron could probably post decent times but his car isnt tuned yet so he, very understandably, is reluctant to drive it hard. Spyhunter, last time i checked needed a new tranny which is a shame since his car could certainly lay down one hell of a beating, And the last one that comes to mind is tim with his recently successful 6 speed swap, i can bet the shorter gear ratio's on his new tranny combined with the small mods hes done could probably hit in the mid to low 14s, all he's missing to be a fierce competitor in this challenge is a turbo and the other stuff that comes with adding one lol, but its not bad since he doesnt have to worry about the tranny anyways and if im not mistaken, he's already enhanced the engines breathing abilities.

And there's more im sure but i forget who, i'm still fairly a noob on this website so im not fully in tune in terms of who's who and all.

But yeah there are certainly a good number of drivers here that have cars that could hit in the 12's or at least come real close. It's pretty exciting from a spectator's point of view :P. And, just like Spyhunter wished, the contest seems to have motivated a few people into getting into gear with their projects, especially in the 3400 crowd. Maybe we will finally see a 3400 powered N body that will dethrone Spyhunter's 4-banger.

That's the idea.....and I think that's what he's looking for doing is getting people to step it up a notch.

From memory, I think he actually mentionned that explicitly.

So far, seems a few of the 3400 guys HAVE stepped it up a notch.

Which is a good thing because that could eventually push the aftermarket to produce more stuff for these engines :D

And also provide me witha bunch of idea's for my own alero once i get the money to put into it.

I just meant in a polite way you were giving a rehash of the whole thread and I didn't want to discourage you from posting. It's good to have someone keeping the thread going so everyone doesn't lose interest. Thank you for your enthusiasm in this event!
