Issue with an Import? (Sentra SpecV)

Apparently there are issues with that car I just learned. Here is an interesting link.

Dan & Greg to the defense!!!!

PACE 01-07-2003 03:06 PM

lol lol Still glad you people upgraded to the Spec V????

That is what you get for buying some Jap Crap

Quote from article:

"During the last five months, we've driven five examples of the new Sentra SE-R Spec V. That's right, five. We've performed our full gamut of instrumented tests on one car, re-tested the acceleration performance of another and had three on the dyno. Why so many? Because all five failed to accelerate quicker than the lowly Sentra SE we tested in the April '01 issue."

How much is the Spec V option?? Looks like money ill spent..

I didn't "upgrade" to the SpecV or the SER.... or even the base Sentra.

All models are under 20 grand.

PACE 01-07-2003 03:30 PM

You telling me there is no price difference between the SE the SE-R and the SE-R Spec V ??? Come-on.

When did I say that? You take one too many crack hits?

I think it is obvious there is a price difference. Go to edmunds or carpoint if you are concerned with prices. I dug some of the information from sportcompact in case you forgot who started this thread.

PACE 01-07-2003 03:52 PM

All my point was is that anyone who bought the upgradeed vehicle didn't get their money's worth..........I think that is also your reason for starting this thread......We're argueing the same point!!!:D

as for insulting me.....screw you

I never said "YOU" did anything....and what does "all model under 20 grand" have to do with the cars performance?

I think YOU need to lay off the CRANK!

it's all good.

PACE 01-07-2003 04:04 PM

 cool.....misunderstanding. I meant what was the amount of money wasted on the SPEC V option.....(the $ difference between the SE and the SE-R Spec V)

I'm sure we'll bothj get flamed when the SPEC V guys here see this thread...lol

That 15.8 in the 1/4 is a little hard to believe... I actually like the Spec V, its a nice little car...

Man you two are definately "rockin' on" in your own thread... :D

cavingman 01-07-2003 04:56 PM

didnt dan run a low 15/high 14 at atco?

iceman 01-07-2003 06:58 PM

Dan's hit a 14.8 with the headers, he was 15.4ish stock I think

Spec V has limited slip and a six speed 17" wheels 2.5l 4cyl.
At my dealer there around $18,000 ish.
Not a bad liitle car but the first few tested did horrible.
Was supposed to have like a 6,800red line and i think they have a 6,200 now?? I don't know I forget.

You should have seen the original photo's(concept) of the specV.
Was a tad meaner looking and had more balls. But then again like I said that was the first few they were having problems with.
My opinons are biased on the specV because my good friend has one:)

Jason E 01-07-2003 07:18 PM

Eh, its still a Nissan :D

We all know your 18,000 is better spent on a Sunfire, right??

Besides J deep down inside you know your a ford focus man any way! lol

j/k buddy

Call me crazy but I'd take the specV If i had to choose an import for under 18k.:)

uhh....

No offense to any j-body owners, but i've been inside the cavy numerous times, and i've been in the spec v quite a few times, and the nissan is WORLDS ahead of the j-body. The interior is ten times better, the engine pulls harder, and you can't top the limited slip. The j bod is a good car...the spec v is just a better car tho, IMO. If the spec v was around when i was buyin a car, i might not be in the GA today. However, comparing the jbody isn't a fair comparison. A spec V is about 18k, and for 18k, you can get a GAGT if you look hard enough. Maybe 19k. Against the GAGT, we've got a competition. However, it still demolishes the j body.

AMRAAM4 01-07-2003 08:16 PM

someone want to enlighten me on exactly what a limited slip does? Here is what I take it as so far? "something" in the tranny that allows the gearing, or whatever to keep spinning when braking (especially hard), yet catch and grab powerfully and safe when you stomp on it again. Basically a limited slip allows better and more sae engine/tranny performance on slowing down and taking off.

Close?

Dude, that was a complete joke. Despite the reskin and new standard ecotec, the J bod is so far behind the times, its amazing. I would still buy it over the Spec V because I don't LIKE the Spec V at all, but I know it needs help. A lot of help. Hence why they have 3k rebates and you can buy a loaded one for like $13,500 brand new!

jonwepa 01-07-2003 08:40 PM

Thats right bash the car for an article that is a year old? I ran a 15.1 with I/E (never ran it stock) and dan ran 14.8 with I/H and these are bad numbers? The SE is not even close either and the difference between base se-r and the spec V is 17inch wheels, 6 speed, and interior
leave the spec alone:(
