It can be a pain though. You have to take the harmonic damper off, so you'll need to rent a crank pulley removal/installer kit. There's not a ton of room to work down in there so you can't get it on and off from the top. You have to take off the passenger side wheel and splash shield and the top engine mount so the front of the engine drops down a little. Then you can get the puller on and get the pulley out. Old seal gets pried out with a flat blade. They have a metal case and are a tight fit, so getting the new one in can be tricky. I oil it up and tap it in with a piece of wood and a mallet to try and keep it square and get it flush with the front cover. It's tight putting the damper back in too. Have to oil that up and push it in then use the installer to draw it down. Whatever you do don't try and use the crank bolt as it will strip. Make sure to oil the threads on the installer tool as well.

Hmm if it's really the front crankshaft seal that is leaking, my shop said they will charge me $43 to replace it (parts and labor). If that's it than I'll just have my shop replace it so I can avoid any hassle.

Yeah, the seal is only like $10. I'm surprised they'd only charge $43 to replace it 'cause it's a minor PITA to change. I don't know if that's where yours is leaking though. That pic you took I can only see the back of the crank case by the transmission. If it's leaking from there is would be the rear crank seal (possibly), not the front. That's a lot more work 'cause the engine has to be removed to replace that. I'd just wait until you get a more firm diagnosis on where the leak is coming from. Crank seals don't go bad that often. Takes a lot of miles.

Yeah I get pretty good labor discounts since I work at the shop. My car only has 102k so hopefully that's not the case. Will find out soon.

Right now I have to change the damn subframe, I am going to pick up one at a local wrecking yard and take it to a wielder and have those mount points strengthened.

AaronGTR 01-09-2014 02:44 PM

^Yeah, I've been lucky so far and my PS rack mounts seem to be fine so far. Surprising really considering the extra stress I put on them, but they haven't really been exposed to any condition where they would rust or anything, and my sub-frame has been replaced one time. Just lucky I guess.

If I had known about that issue back when I still had my MIG welder and I had my engine out last, I would have gone ahead and beefed them up just as a precaution. Now it will just have to wait.

Here's a comparison shot with my 3k HIDs and the LED flood lights.

I think the HIDs have a more "concentrated" light beam since it was in a reflector bowl but dispertion wise the LEDs do it more evenly.

Mount them on faggot.

BTW wheels always look better once the tires are mounted and vise-versa.

sleepyalero 01-11-2014 09:16 PM

Sorry guys. Will be awhile before they are on the car. Im doing alot of work before spring comes. Need new axle boots on driver and passanger side axles. They are leaking axle grease. Need new front strut mounts. (Dont use an impact to bolt them on the strut tower...) need 2 more bbs wheels to complere complete the set. Need new tail lights. And a few other things.

The bbs wheels will be put on the rear of car tomorrow (since I pnly have two) so I can support the car better. The car has no wheels on, its up in the air. Front is held by 2 jack stands. Rear is up by one jack right in the center. Front has no wheel hubs on, no brakes, no struts. I took all that off yesterday. Wheels will be put on the rear so I can drop the ass end and pull the axles out and send em in for boot replacement. Im afraid if I tug on the axles that I could rock the car off the jack stands. So I want to put the rear on the ground and move the jack to the front for extra support.

So no pics for awhile till all this is done... and I cant put wheels on front to get a side pic of car to see how they look. So we will just have to wait.

[ChaosweaveR] 01-11-2014 09:24 PM

TruGreenGAGT 01-11-2014 09:37 PM
