Well i woke up today to find that i had 3 flat tires. One of them filled up but the other had a big hole in it, and while i was moving to do the 3rd, the air hose exploded. Anyone know what i should do? (i dont know if i should put on a donut because it is really snowy and icy.)

It depends. I'm assuming they don't have emissions testing in TX? Some states require a failed cat be replaced with an OEM replacement to meet emissions. The factory pieces are usually much more expensive, both because they usually are part of the downpipe so they include all the piping and flanges etc, and also because they usually have more platinum in there. That's what makes them work, and more platinum = more efficient and more expensive.

The cheaper aftermarket cats usually have less platinum and are less efficient and/or take longer to light off, and sometimes won't pass emissions testing because of this. Some brands are better than others though, and if you get a long enough cat with a big enough core it should still work pretty good.

^ this. I bought a new y-pipe for my 94 Silverado for $127 and the cat is a very cheap one. I can smell the difference from before and now. But it's not a big deal since its my winter beater, and the truck is straight piped anyways. lol

Yes Texas does have emission test. Ill just go ahead and get a OEM cat to be on the safe side. Thanks for the info

I got a universal cat for my Cavalier and it passed inspection. If you lived in my area I would say go to where I usually go just in case.

hmm where did you go? my shop quotes me like 1,200 to replace with an OEM. I need something that will last and that is equal to or better than factory one.

Shade2012 12-08-2013 07:05 PM

Less talk, more pictures.

I live in the north side so I went to a shop close to my house. Not sure on your vehicle but on mine Thunderbolt catalytic converters by Performance Curve are good to use.

Rinsed it off. Nothing better then a winter wash. I feel the car looks better clean when its the outside has been snowed/salted over.

Shade2012 12-10-2013 08:18 PM

I really need to do this. My truck is a disaster after playing in the snow.

sleepyalero 12-10-2013 08:34 PM

it looks cleaner because its shtty outside.

what phone/camera are you using?

TDavis 12-10-2013 08:40 PM

S3.

Still looks better since everyone else is too sissy and/or lazy to wash their cars.

TruGreenGAGT 12-10-2013 08:42 PM

looks like crap.

needs a projo retro

TDavis 12-10-2013 08:43 PM

^Not till far in the future when I get my SC/T kit painted and put on lol. I need to buy the stuff needed and then practice on my OEM set first before I fk up my nice black housings.

TruGreenGAGT 12-10-2013 08:44 PM

just sell me the sc/t kit i give you $400 cash right now, then you can do the retro now

TDavis 12-10-2013 08:45 PM

Hell no lol, Surprised you haven't bought one from PFYC yet.

TruGreenGAGT 12-10-2013 08:48 PM

waiting for a used one to pop up dirt cheap... can't justify spending the price new for how little there is

sleepyalero 12-10-2013 09:02 PM

I took a pic of it in the garage for you fcks.

Do you have a block heater on that car? Probably could use it in temps like that.

AaronGTR 12-11-2013 07:41 AM

First snow of the year on it. :(

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...pse023b616.jpg

I'm ready for winter driving though. Tall snow tires, 4x4 style. lol They give me an extra 5/8" ground clearance, and they really fill out the wheel well. Just barely clears everything. 215/55-17 Goodyear ultra grip ice wrt's.

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...psb1cc81a3.jpg

Got myself one of those water shedding filter covers for my K&N filter on the CAI too. I've never had a problem with it even in heavy rain, but I figured it can't hurt with all the road spray and slush I'll be driving through for the next 4 months. Plus it's supposed to keep the filter clean longer and mine sits right behind the bumper opening, so it's just extra insurance.

Probably not considering it wont start. Where would you even get a block heater for the 3400?

Also hobo. Find a goof high CCA battery.

Canadian model GA's had them from the factory. ;)

You can find aftermarket versions too, although most of them are cheap and ineffective. They mostly just go on the outside of the oil pan which doesn't get much heat into the fluid. Some install in the radiator hoses. To really be effective they need to be installed so they heat up the oil in the oil pan or the coolant in the block.

mfuller 12-11-2013 08:25 AM

Aaron, make sure to keep an eye on those brake rotors over the winter.
Road salt can cause some nasty corrosion to build up between the iron rotor and the aluminum hat.

Was going to install one but ran out of time/money. And the plugins on the outside of the townhouse get plowed by retards and people walk around drunk and someone would rip it out of the wall. Plus all the parking spots in front of my place are always full so i have to go to visitor parking. Should i go to sears or autozone for a battery? Any suggestions on brands that will perfom best in frigid cold?

Will do Matt, thanks.

I've never driven it through a full winter before with these brakes on, so didn't have any idea how they would handle it. I plan on doing a weekly rinse off at the local car wash. I'll remember to pay special attention to flushing out the wheels and brake discs.

Damn it's cold! Lucky for me my car starts no matter how cold it is. I can't figure it out. :iconfused I do have a brand new starter though.

Dirty as Fck! The calipers will be red in the spring. Hopefully with black wheels!

Interstate batteries are fine, diehard batteries are fine. Many brands are fine, I personally use a DieHard Platinum series battery for my car because it works just fine with my system.

Pontiac_guy99 12-11-2013 02:22 PM

Mine starts okay, just turns over really slow. Does the block heater fix that or what?

bricooper78 12-11-2013 03:48 PM

Aaron better stop posting pics w/out that SC/T hood, car looks so much more slick without it. He's going to get griped at when he puts it back if we all get used to seeing it slicked out lol
