Man, that is half tempting... I already have one 200,000 mile ford 5.4, not sure I need another... I actually have to hunt down a drip on the truck tomorrow lol

Those are sorted by distance from you, they can also be sorted by price, they had them for under 200 even for grade A parts but shipping them could cost a bit.

i dont know much about it, but can't you swap out just the gears, and replce the broken u-joint with out swapping the whole axle? to me would seem cheaper and easier. but maybe I'm wrong
|
walked out of advance auto and saw this! i walked right back inside and said "okay, who has the gto?" spent 10 minutes talking and listening to each other's cars.
http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/...pscda01530.jpg grand am's water pump was getting loud. bearings were shot, but it wasn't leaking. but when i pulled it off, i expected water to run out. THE FRIGGIN THING WAS DDDDDRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYY http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/...psb6b003f8.jpg http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/...psb6b003f8.jpg http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4d1152f9.jpg http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4fbe355a.jpg And the coolant resevoir was empty too. So i'm thinking i've got a coolant leak AGAIN. i put the new pump on and filled it with water and let it idle for 20 minutes. Never saw a drop of water run down the block or drip off of anything. but i do see a trace of oil between the rear head and block. also, i thought that when i filled the coolant tank up and let the car run, it would pull water out of the tank. But after 20m i unscrewed the lid and coolant shot out the overflow tube. My temp gauge has been working fine. and i didn't ever get a low coolant warning light like always before. oil looks clean. only put 10k on it since the head gaskets were replaced. the car sits outside in the grass, so i wouldn't notice a coolant puddle. |

Then you have to set the gears exactly if they are out it will screw up your entire rear end. |

If you mean all the gears inside like this
http://www.smithfamilycolorado.com/S...erential01.JPG as you can see that ring gear is damn near the size of the housing. |
no sorry the rear diff was 9in gears we swapped the whole axle, got from a donor lincoln i think

Random question Gene, would you be willing to take a picture of your front tires and rear tires side by side to get a tread width comparison? I'm starting to get intrigued with 255/35 tires, would fit my wider stance better since I have spacers and go overkill with 255/35/18 Michelin super sports .
Whenever you get a chance. |

I will be pulling the tires off to replace my power steering rack soon, maybe even tomorrow so taking them off is not a problem. |

Oh and I have run the 255/35/18's up front as well no fitment problems I will be going with all 4 255/35/18's soon. |
I would love to see an aggressive, 9" wide wheel pulled off on a GAGT someday...

They are driving lights, I bought them from wal mart in 09 but they dont carry those any longer.

Quick question about my truck. I'm new to trucks, so bare with me. Is it possible that just the slip yoke broke and I could replace that and the ujoint and be good to go? I'm really not believing this dealership telling me that the rear end seized up and I"m needing a new driveshaft and rear end. Doing some research here and there leads me to believe that this is the only problem..

It should be a whole lot smaller job then replacing the entire diff housing and cheaper though. At that im second guessing my self on if the ring gear has to come out or if the shaft can slip by it. The best thing you can do is pull the rear diff cover and see the shape of the gears, have someone that you trust, and knows what they are looking at, see if any of the gears are broken, or the axle shafts twisted off. If the diff did lock up at 60+ you would have felt the rear lock up even if all it did was cause a jolt through the truck it breaking free and rolling again could be the result of gears or axles twisting off. |
jack up the rear end so the tires aren't touching the ground and spin the tire, other tire should also spin and have someone look at where the part broke that should spin... if all does i would say nothing is seized
