A front plate is useless and really is a waste of tax dollars...

Oh wait, New York.

lol

they started that here back in the early 90's.. i mean it's like one worked for so many years.

don't they stamp the plates in prisons.

First of the few mods that will be done to it once I get my plates and pay the sales tax is chopping the tail and getting SpeedyMoto sliders. Exhaust will be last seeing as exhausts for Ducati's cost 5 times more then for a jap bike but hey, I knew that going into buying a Ducati. Stock is really loud nonetheless for stock, especially when compared to stock jap bikes that sound like mopeds.

Cleaned her up, wheels, polished the exhaust(which is a damn maze). Also took the stickers off the trellis frame, common "mod" people do since it cleans it up. Some say its illegal others say they've had no problems with selling the bike or getting it registered with them but nonetheless I did what everyone else did which was stick them on the frame under the seat.

Took one sticker off the left side already, total of 4 stickers on the left side and 1 on the right.

Cops always check the rear plate. My first time being pull over the cop walks straight towards the back of the car he didn't pay any attention that I didn't have a front plate.

geldartb 01-02-2015 02:02 PM

got some center caps for it.. factory center caps are impossible to find and people don't want to let go of the extra ones they have so i got some billet ones from mrz. on the last pic i'm trying out mudflap extensions with some rubber i got from work. might make them longer

Few more things and it will be ready to drive. Looking to finish tomorrow.

New sway bar, new sway bar brackets, bushings, and end links installed today, hub installed, lower control arm and knuckle also installed, replaced air filter.

Tomorrows task - inner tie rod, outer tie rod, oil change, serpentine belt, put strut back on, put axle into wheel bearing, put the brake/rotor back on. Hit the junk yard tomorrow as well for a new wheel since the driver side one is trashed from the accident. If i can find two with good tires, ill get 2 wheels so i dont have to bother with buying 2 new tires for the front. Rears are at 75% tread life at least, fronts are bald and driver front got shredded. Looking forward to having this finished.

I also bought valve cover gaskets and an oil pan gasket. It leaks oil, so i may do valve covers tomorrowif i have time, but the oil pan will wait for another time since thats a little bigger task. Id also like to do plugs/wires too, but that probably wont be for a couple months. Runs fine right now with what its got. So not to eager to do it, but soon i will be doing that as well.

And i thought of a name for the car. I decided to name it "cheap whore"

geldartb 01-03-2015 06:51 AM

honestly sleepy check the junk yards out for tires. sometimes you get these fools that junk a car with new/decent tires.
i had good luck with that years ago when i went to upstate new york. popped a tire and found a new one at a local yard. still had the little nubs on it.

sleepyalero 01-03-2015 08:04 AM

Yeah thats what im about to do today...... In the rain....... :(

geldartb 01-03-2015 08:40 AM

around here it's like 20-25 a tire. good luck have fun.

i haven't been to the junk yard in almost a year..been meaning to go since i want to get some interior pieces to screw around with. and i can probably see the old legacy.lol

Looks pretty sweet man! I think the mud flap extensions are probably just the right length. I mean, they don't need to be down to the ground right? Just low enough to keep from spitting stuff on the cars behind. :)

figured i'd try them on the back first since it's easier to do the riveting. my main reason for the fronts is to keep the snow build up off the rockers.

I know. It sucks.

On the bright side, I picked up some MAF cleaner. I sprayed some in there, and it somewhat fixed it. It used to idle around 400 RPM and be very twitchy. Now it idles around its normal 900-1000 RPM, except it is still twitchy.

The engine light is/has been on for a while now, but maybe it will go off after a few drives with the cleaned sensor. I have also decided to switch out my CAI back to my stocker. Just to be safe.

Still shifts funny, but oh well. My savings for a different car (GP GTP or Bonnie SSEI or SLE) are already up to $9xx dollars. Add that to the trade of mine and I will have enough to buy it. Hopefully the 3800 is a slight bit more reliable, because I really love mine to death, but I just can't have all these problems.

geldartb 01-03-2015 04:39 PM

you should really do some research on the car you want.. the sensors are pretty much the same between the 3400 and 3800. they may look different but physically but.

try the map sensor. i had idle issues when mine went south. why don't you read the code for the engine light to find out what it is. autozone can do that for you if you don't have a reader. sounds like a lot of your problems are not knowing what you are doing with cars..

buying another car probably won't solve your problem..i mean honestly what do you think they are going to give you for a 12yr old pontiac. i hope you aren't expecting much.

Actually picked up 2 wheels with tires. 72$ with 30$ off that for 2 wheels in return

It might be more towards the summer months before I really start looking into this, but it will be here much sooner if the car dies.

I will take the car to my local shop and hopefully not have them charge me more that $75 for it. yeah, they seem to charge quite a bit for even small things.

Thanks for the info though!

sleepyalero 01-03-2015 10:05 PM

Shes all finished! Got a new belt on it and did an oil change. Its nice to have this thing done. Plugs and wires in the near future, along with fuel system cleaner, and valve cover and oil pan gaskets replaced.

The wheel bearing lights are still lit up (replaced driver side only) so i guess i have another bad one somewhere. I think i have a warranty on one at autozone For the black alero. Should take the blown out one and exhange it for free to replace pass side lol. Its def a plus to have 2 of the same car. Cause then most parts with warranty are free for either car!

does you or anyone you know have a smart phone. get the $15 torque pro app and an $8 bluetooth obd2 adapter off amazon.

that sounds like typical rate for them doing diagnostic work.

Sounds good. I don't have a smartphone but I will ask my parents if I can use theirs for a a little while.

One is, the other is a grand am wheel. I wasnt to worries about matching wheels. More worried about same tire size and good tread life.

Found one matching wheel off an alero with good tread, out of the whole yard. And found a GA with same tire size with good tread as well out of the whole yard. So i said screw it.

They arent chrome colored because i started plasti dipping them when i took the pic. But when i got the car all wheels on it were dipped black. Well i dont care to remove the **** so i just plasti dipped the 2 i got from JY to match the rear.

sounds like the beretta wheels i put on the subaru..said screw it and bought some rustoleum and some brushes..like zero fucks were given and you honestly can't tell the difference between the ones that were factory black and the ones i brushed on.

that's how i felt about the wheels. winter wheels and the paint seems to be holding up good so far. hell even if you drove it for a few months and scrapped it you would still probably make money.. the place i gave the legacy to gave me $200 for it and if i brought it to them it would have been $250

spent more on the center caps than i did the wheels.lol paid $50 for wheels and something like $150 for the center caps...lol the tires that's a whole other story.

Pontiac_guy99 01-04-2015 04:00 PM

Sleepy you could have came here. There's this alero in my jy with 3 alloys like the ones you have.

sleepyalero 01-04-2015 04:24 PM

well the rims i got from the same person i sold a bunch of the stuff from when i scrapped the Z26 to and i cut him a huge deal then..ended up getting the center caps from MRZ which were machined billet and around $30 a piece. i just got sick of looking at the axle nuts and finding a set of OEM ones were damn near impossible.

sleepyalero 01-04-2015 05:24 PM

Yeah thats fair enough. The axles are ugly. Lol

Ha-ha. I totally agree with you that the picture makes the wires look like different sizes. The power looks bigger than the ground at the bottom of the distro blocks but did you notice that the ground looks bigger than the power at the top of the blocks. They are all the same gauge in real life I swear. :slayer

TDavis 01-05-2015 09:35 PM

Halfway installed the fender eliminator. Looks like a whole new damn bike without that stupid fender. Ignore the missing turn signal, the previous owner snapped his off and glued it back on, thankfully I didn't need that part of the fender. New OEM one should be here tomorrow.

Not completely installed, just fastened the top down. Once I get my torque wrench my sliders will be installed.

TDavis 01-05-2015 09:53 PM

Not going to work on it when its 15 degrees outside, its stored in the kitchen till spring. Doesn't take up that much space interestingly enough. Can't be thankful enough they're letting me keep it in the house rather than sit outside.

yeah so you know it hard to tell what u doing without, before and after pics
