Camber wear? I know BMWs like to wear out the inner portions of the tread on the rear tires. Maybe try a harder compound tire? An all season might last longer.

Debadged and installed the GT badge on the GA today.

It's not a GT...

I know. But my car is a GAGT from mechanical standpoint. It has rear disc brakes too.

Technically no. Gearing is still different. Either way....it's not a GT since part of being a GT is the external differences in the bumpers, side cladding, mirrors, and taillights.

I know. The only differences between my car and a GT is actually that the transmition is ever so slightly different, the front and rear bumpers, the side molding, and the tail lights. Everything else is the same. Actually my car has more performance than a GT because of the mods I've done to it.

It's just the looks really at this point.

Either way it's a GA.

[ChaosweaveR] 06-20-2013 09:28 PM

Don't badge it what it really isn't.

99ga 06-20-2013 10:05 PM

My GA was a SE... i put a GT front, rear bumper, all 4 gt door panels, GT side skirts, GT Muffler, GT wheels. After all that then i thought it was time to badge it as a GT

You put the side GT badges on the trunk. The actual trunk badge is smaller.

That's like the guys with the SC/T badge who only have the hood and spoiler.

TDavis 06-20-2013 10:21 PM

I truely don't really care, I wouldn't mind having the SC/T badges but ehhh. If you're doing a GT conversion then put the badges on if you want to. No one in their right mind will see your car drive and be like "HEY THATS NOT SHIFTING LIKE A GT!" If you have the 3.4 and your turning your SE into a GT with the body panels then go for it.

Scott is getting GT bumpers/cladding so his will be a GT sooner or later, I would of kept the badges off till then though.

Wait, how is the tanny from an se different to a GT? I thought they both had the same transmission

Correct me if im wrong but from my understanding the SE has a 3.05 gear ratio ans the GT has a 3.29 gear ratio. At least that's what I've read on the forums.

99ga 06-20-2013 10:44 PM

I dont know :/ lol who cares ill be swapping to the 6 speed tranny any time soon anyways :D

99ga 06-20-2013 10:50 PM

Either way as long as you convert it into a GT exteriorwise like i did then you should be good....the only thing i kept from the SE was the tails because i personally like them better specially tinted and at night when you hit the brakes them lines on the tails look nice

That's like saying "my car is basically the same as a Ferrari 458... except it's fwd... and it's not a v8... and it doesn't have as much hp... or all the CF body parts... or under body aero panels... etc etc etc.... but it has 4 wheels and an engine." lol

If it doesn't have the gt body panels. It doesn't look like a gt. Plus the trans final drive ratio is different, AND they have different gauge clusters with different top mph, and I'm sure there are a few other differences. And they have different VIN# sequences too, so it will never truly be a gt. I have a gt1 and my vin sequence is different from a gt.

^This. Once it truly looks like a gt, then you can pull off gt badges. Until then, not really.

I don't remember where I saw it or what brand, but I read something the other day about a brand/line of tires with a higher wear rated rubber compound compared to the rest of the tire, just on the inside section of the tread, specifically to help them last longer on cars like that. My friends 3 series bimmer wore tires on the inside edge too. Front and back, although the rears wore faster. Wasn't lowered either. Stock oem sport suspension.

PhantomLover007 06-21-2013 06:10 AM

I know some folks had Kumho Escta tires and they seem to run through pretty quickly. I've had mine on since 08' and they've been ok. But then again the GA got garaged every other year... lol

Yeah. Had issues in the past but they weren't as prevalent as this. I don't know too much about handling geometry; would it be wrong to assume that I could adjust the camber to that there was more toe (heel?) to counteract heavier wear on the inner tread?

Not I. Too dirty for me. lol And I'm too lazy. But I managed to get the wheel on and off and back in the spare well in about 5 minutes so maybe if I get faster...

Hmmm...I really don't want to spend all that much on a full set of tires because I always seem to have issues with them (e.g. nails, debris, etc.). And I'm frickin' tired of Z-rated highers because dammit- this is not a racecar! lol

But if you happen to remember the brand that'd be great.

sleepyalero 06-21-2013 01:11 PM

Nitto all the way!!!

Currently have 98 miles on this tank of gas. Decided to see how much I could get out of a single tank. Going well thus far.

The most I've seen is 425 out of a tank of fuel, although that week and a half was a breeze. I got lucky going to and from work hitting no traffic, I stayed home all that week after work and did around town driving that weekend.

I've been stuck for 15-20 min in stop and go traffic so that didn't help. Neither is this heat having to use the damn air conditioning on the highway. lol

Yeah I left the sunroof open during dinner and it ended up pouring its ass off. So that sensor is out and I just pulled the bulb off the cluster lol.

Using AC under 40mph hurts mileage, but improve mileage over 40 instead of windows down. Not by much, but it does. Normally I'm windows down and doing 80 lol.

sleepyalero 06-21-2013 05:06 PM

Yeah i plan on removing my ac one day

tipnitty 06-21-2013 05:08 PM

You really don't need to. But if you aren't using it and going turbo. Probably best to remove it.

sleepyalero 06-21-2013 05:18 PM

Yeah. WEIGHT REDUCTION! lol

I dont use it, easier to have it removed, one less thing i have to worry about.

AaronGTR 06-22-2013 11:36 AM

Your window defogger won't work anymore. ;) No real reason to remove it. It's not that much weight, and it doesn't really cost you HP. A properly designed turbo system and intercooler can work just fine with A/C. Only need to remove it if you are doing a cheap hack job.

I personally don't use the A/C that much either, but I'm still glad I have it for when I really need it.

I really need my A/C with this horrid houston weather.

BMWs have camber adjustments in the rear, the average shop usually doesn't know how to do it, or want to. I'd find a shop with an alignment rack that specializes in BMW/German cars, you could hit up a dealer but that's $$$$$ right there, although it will be done right the first time.

Getting rid of the camber wear altogether won't happen, because of the way the suspension is designed though. But look at the tire size you're running! Comes with the territory. Speaking of which, what is the tire size exactly? Toyo Proxes 4 Plus might be the way to go, they have a treadwear of 540, you'd get much more life out of them compared to the cheapo brands like Nankangs.
