Thanks for the responses guys! I'm thinking of going with the suggestion of just trying another brand, either AC delco or Moog. It's a pain because it's a few hours of work and an alignment after.

Check what tools PartSoure has for rental. I know they have the slide hammer that you bought available, I've used it for wheel bearings. They might also have some attachments for axle removal.

I wouldn't say notorious, but it has happened to some. I don't think very many though. The mount can rust and break off, and you will need a new subframe. I guess it's not something that can be fixed...

This is done by cutting a slit through the ring with a dremel with cutoff wheel. A hand saw will work if you have one small enough...
