Terminals on the starter. One has a big wire...
Terminals on the starter. One has a big wire which has the 12 volts.. then the other terminal with smaller wire. Third wire is ground. Pushbutton shorts these two together and engages starter motor....

Multifunction switch has been the culprit on a couple other problems... Not sure you can get to the contacts to clean them since the switch is inside the stick but maybe worth a shot to inspect or...
