One thing you can do to kill the AUTO light control, kinda ghetto but works. If you pull the light sensor that is mounted under the windsheild next to the defrost vents, you can open up the sensor...

make sure your gas is good, cars nowadays are programmed to idle high if the gas gets condensation or whatever in it (usually when close to empty)

i was the guy he "helped" last month. What he said was probably right on his car, but it was pretty wrong on my 2000 Alero. The sensor on the car WAS underneath the vent where the defrost comes...
