Top 1/4 mile times <new and improved>

I'm making a new thread since the old one is cluttered and never gets updated. I've been here for a long time and I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, so this one WILL get updated.

update: this thread is locked since some people can't act like adults. If it wasn't clear in my last post in the thread, you need to PM me the information required if you want to be added/updated.

Now lets get down to business. The purpose of this thread is threefold.
1) To show what Grand Am's are capable of.
2) To acknowledge the accomplishments of those who make them faster.
3) To motivate others to try and break some records.

The rules are simple.
-I will accept times for any 1998 and up n-body. That includes Alero's and Malibu's if any of them wish to send me the info. They are basically the same platform and same weight, and use the same engines and transmissions, so I see no reason to exclude them. The performance of their cars should be similar to a Grand Am stock vs stock.
-The car must be street drivable. It doesn't necessarily have to be registered, but it should be able to be registered.
-You can use any transmission you want. If you can swap it in and make it work, go for it. Engines however need to be something that came in the car. We want to know to know what these engines will do. You can make hybrids with parts from other engines (ie. 3400/3500 or 2.3/2.4 hybrids etc.), but no complete engine swaps will count. That means NO 3800's, no LS1's, no jet turbines... whatever.
-There will be four categories now. Naturally aspirated, turbo, supercharged, and nitrous. There are enough turbo and SC'd guys now that they can be split up.
-No classes for tires. If you want to go faster, tire choice is part of your setup. If you use drag radials or slicks that will be noted next to your time though, along with your engine and trans if necessary, just to give people some perspective of what was used to achieve it. If you use more than one power adder that will also be noted (ie. alcohol injection or nitrous along with turbo or SC).
-Sorry, no altitude adjustment. You run what you run.
-I'll do my best to gather info and links from the previous thread. Long time members that we know with previously accepted records will be grandfathered in. Any newcomers or people with "questionable" claims or background will need to show more proof. A picture of your time slip and a pic of your car with the number on it at the track should be a minimum. If you can't provide those, you have no business on the internet. Video is even better, as long as we can recognize your car and see the timing board at the end. Links to your cars mods are also appreciated but not required (cardomain page or equivalent is fine). On to the good stuff!

Awesome. Thanks for updating the list. Wow 5th fastest N/A? I dunno whether to be happy or sad at such a thing.

^I knew there where more out there. Updated! Good stuff, keep 'em coming guys.

A few observations... despite the fact it seems like we are making slow progress, we are actually well ahead of where we were 3-4 years ago. Almost all the turbo times are in the 13's now and dipping towards 12's. The top SC times are almost to 12's now and all the top ten are under 14.4 now which used to be good enough for top 5. Although we have one NA car now running 13's, it seems like the majority are stuck in the 14.8-14.9 range. You NA guys need to step your game up a bit. We know the car is capable, I just haven't seen that many doing complete NA builds getting them done and to the track.

oh, almost forgot... does anyone remember was Spy's run made on slicks or DR's? And was he running race gas or pump gas? I recall he dyno'd before with C16 but don't remember if he ran that at the track.

slicks - M&H Racemasters ---- I've done it on "pump" available 100octane and c16.. both times I hit 12.4 times. and i've run numerous times in the 12's on 100octane.

when I ran with c16 at the track and snapped off a 12.4 I blew the headgasket and clutch, and clocked 118mph at the traps. every other time is 12.4 at like 110-112 or something.\

oh if it's gutted and unregistered it goes into a race category. Most definitely you're faster. But I get to say I did it with full interior. My most un-street legal mod was having no cat. :-p

My burnout was better too!

you got me on the burnout. They rushed me through the staging lanes so fast I barely made it to the line in time, you can see me frantically getting everything setup in the car before the run, and then having to make that sharp turn to get close to straight. This combined with still learning the car, remember that was my first day racing the car. My biggest problem all day was that I was dragging the skinnies through the waterbox when I was hoping that two 4.5" wide tires would hold the car still when two 11.5" ones were spinning. On that particular run, it looks like I let off early ... I'd chalk it up to human error/rushing and being nervous.

My first run of the day is always nerve racking.

Dragging water with the rear tires, always a problem w/ fwd. I hate it myself. It can get you squirrely on the track which gets a bit scary.

What I was trying to say was that when I'd set my line-lock to hold the rear tires still and did the burnout, they wouldn't rotate, but the slicks would drag the whole car with locked-up rear tires.

200whp = 13.9 NA. I don't think I will ever see that again out of an N body.

Because to get that far you HAVE to invest a significant amount of money. Mods like you and I have won't get us to that mark because the next step is heads. Manifolds, headers, intakes, etc are pretty cheap on their own.

To really get that far you'd have to get a moderate heads/cam setup. And once you do that you really have to ask yourself what your goal is. Will you settle for just #1 spot NA on the board, or push the limits and go all out to the extent of boring and possibly even stroking the engine combined with an aggressive cam? Most GA owners now have gotten the car second hand and don't make that kind of money or are willing to give up their daily driver for something that extreme. Maybe if they keep it long enough it'd happen, but just like my thoughts of setting a helluva record for NA are, they're just pipe dreams til it gets done.

It will take more than 200whp for anyone else to run 13s, short of cutting parts off the car.

Let me know if you can find the better slip, maybe get a friend or someone with a scanner to scan it for ya, and I'll add ya in once you find your best time.
