For $100k+ they're going to have problems selling those, after all it is a Chevy most people won't drop that much on a Chevy of any type. *in reference to the ZR1*

Yeah, sorry but I gotta agree. Sure the GTR has a cult following and people have been wanting one here in the states ever since gran turismo came out... but the 'vette is an american icon and there are still a lot more fanatic chevy fans out there than fanatic nissan fans. Whether or not it's justified or based on any kind of logic (which it probably isn't) is totally irrelevant. It's just a fact that those people are out there and they're willing to spend the money to have the car they dream of.

if they ever come on the used market for a decent price in 5 years I will have one. Mark my word. 30,000ish car with performance is what I want in 5 years around when I'm 25 years old. Hope to have my career set, done with college. Looking to have fun while I'm young. Responsible fun.

I highly doubt you will be able to get a GTR in 5 years for 30K. Look at the Supra. A car that has alot of potential, and is what 14 years old for the MIV. With the aftermarket coming hard at this car, I don't see the price going down that far in value. Unless its been wrecked

Id love to have a GT-R. From eveything I have read, it is going to be an awesome car. There are also going to be VERY FEW of them on the road, unlike the Corvette, so it will hold resale value much much better. My G37 coupe is as close as I'm going to get to a GT-R for awhile though.

I guess the zr1 is garbage too...if you just hate imports thats cool just admit it but even if you hate them to call it garbage is ridiculousoh and plenty of people will pay for them and they've been on the waiting list for a long time now, people will easily pay that much to import a r34 and make it street legal now they don't have to they can have a legal r35

Since you mention the new ZR1 I'll put it to you this way. The ZR1 is the underdog. Its hyped yes, but it has 50+years of history behind it. It outperformed the GTR at the track under less than favorable conditions in full stock format while driven by an ENGINEER. The GTR was driven on R-compound tires with the boost cranked up BEYOND stock levels AND by a pro. Why? For one simple reason: HYPE. They wanted bragging rights however they could get them. So explain to me now why I'm ignorant in calling the GTR overrated. Granted both vehicles are competing for the same bragging rights currently, and issues of price come into play as well. I just simply refuse to accept or like cars that are sold for their image first and performance second. Lambos and Ferraris fall under that category. Yes both are incredible highend performance machines. But why are you buying THAT car? BECAUSE of the name. The name drew you in, the performance sold you. My pet peeve is when a name is used to gather attention and distract you from what's really happening. Now I know many people, here and elsewhere, would gladly chop off their pinky to have those types of vehicles. Why? IMAGE. Wrapping things up, a lot of this has to do with perception and opinion. My opinion is that the car that performs far beyond expectations and is not sold by reputation alone is the better machine. I would choose a simple rotary powered Rx-8 ANY day of the week over a GTR, ZR1, "prancing pony" or "raging bull". Why? Because it consistently blows away expectations and has achieved an incredible balance of power and performance (yes they are different) that has impressed even hardened critics. Is that reputation? In a sense yes. But the difference is that you don't see people running out and buying one because of the name alone. Most automotive enthusiasts would turn up their nose and say "You want that torqueless wind up toy?" But after a few spins around a track their opinion often changes to "It did better than I expected." THAT is what I like.

I read a thing about Nissan being super anal about their warranties and stuff and if you take it to the track or something you have to get it check'd out for 1000, so yea im with you, if you just shelled out 70 birds for a new GT-R i wouldnt want to **** around to much.

Considering the new Vette is like $100,000 or so, I think the GT-R is a steal for the price. I couldn't afford one, but if I could afford a sports car I'd definitly take one over a Corvette.
But Even as cool as this thing is, I think I'd still take an R34 skyline over it. My biggest dissapointment with the GT-R is the 350z-ish look it has going to it. Last edited by Cormaster; 07-04-2008 at 06:45 AM. |

no it wasn't. and actually production model broke out to 7:29. It didn't have R-compound tires, sticky street tires yes, but not race rubber. It doesn't matter who's behind the wheel of the car. If you know someone who buys a ZR1 have them find a hotshoe driver to try to do the same. If I ever wanted a rotary powered car. it'll be an FD, w/ a rotary engine delete. I'll swap in an LS1. Reliability that the rotary wishes it had. you're just blowing hot air.
