It's been quite some time since I've posted and I return to you with sad pictures: The quality is kind of sub-par, since this was taken with my cellphone. I have a question, though. In the first pic, the rear quarter panel is pretty bent up. Is this sorta thing fixable? Or am i looking at having my car totaled out by the insurance? It's on 03, with 72k miles on it. kbb values it at 7800 private party, but 9500 retail. I'm nervous. Don't want my baby to die! P.S. Don't ask how it happened. It was a mix of me not paying attention and then poor recovery abilities. The rules that apply to fish-tailing on slippery surfaces will not help you recover on dry... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Damn that crinkle by the gas door is what concerns me. did the air bags go off? Sorry to see that, where in Ill did this happen?

Thats more than fixable.... my alero had far more damage in the rear end, and it was repaired.... and my rear quarter panel had a massive crinkle in it (I was stopped an an intersection, waiting for the truck in front of me to turn, person driving the civic had a seizure and lost control... he clipped the drivers side rear end at about 60km/h)

Coming from someone that has totaled a Grand Am, I'd say you probably will never drive it again.

Fixable yes. The rear quarter will be the hardest to get it to come out looking right since that's not a part they can just unbolt and put a new one on. It looks like mostly cosmetic damage though and not anything that would affect the cars drivability (ie put a new tail light in and it could be driven).
The front end is where the price could really go up and determine whether or not they total it. It's pretty much impossible to tell from those pics how much damage the front has, but there are a lot more parts up there that have a chance of being damaged and needing replaced, plus possibility of frame damage, all of which would drive the cost way up depending on the extent. I'd say it's definitely fixable though. Mine was much much worse and it's running today.

well from a quick look over hes gonna need a new taillight, new bumper, the trunk alignment has to be focked up, the rear pass side quarter panel has to be straightened out, new hood, 2 new head lights, new header panel, new front bumper, new pass side front quarter panel, the frame has to be twisted a bit, i can only assume theres some damage to the radiator.

you'd be surprised what a uni-potter in the right hands can do. other than that everything else is replacable. No worries man, insurance should cover it.

Last GA we had was $5800 in front end damage, hood, fenders, bumper, radiator support, radiator, A/C Condenser. Hope it comes out ok. BTW that quarter is way too wadded up in the rear corner to use a uni spot on. They'll have to replace it new or used parts. Keep in mind most insurance compaines use the 65-75% of value total system. If repairs exceed 75% of vehicle value its a definite total.

SC/T hoods and spoilers could be had from the factory or dealer on a new car starting in either late 02 or in 03. It was just an option to check off.

I had a spinout on a freeway entrance ramp in Detroit. I tried to drift out of it and the car just kept spinning...I've never had a spinout on dry pavement before, so I didnt think to accelerate out of it. The airbags never deployed, though. The car rides just fine and I even let go of the wheel driving back to Chicago on the highway and the car didn't pull to any one side or anything like that. So, Im not sure if the frame is twisted at all. I'm kinda hoping it's repairable. Ive never dealt with totaling a car before. Let alone trying to deal with settling with the loan company and replacing the vehicle.
I do have a question, though: I bought the car used from a dealer. It only has 72k miles on it. kbb values it at 7800 private party and 9500 retail with that mileage. If it does get totaled, which value with the insurance company use to pay out? And yeah, the SC/T hood and spoiler are OEM. |

The insurance will give the "value" of the car they determine. It can be anything "around" the 2 numbers.

so are you going to get a new hood, or try and fix that one? if your going to get a new one, then pm me and i will buy the old. good thing ur ok tho, and that car is totally fixable. i would be worried the unibody might be tweaked a bit, if it is they will definately total it.
