HID kit caused svs light

I read many threads on this issue, but most ppl didnt disable their drl's before installing kit, i did. I have a 2000 Grand am, I disabled the drls months before I installed the kit and had no problems. I got the kit from http://vvme.com/product/detail-20023.html 9007 (low/high). Does anyone know how i can get that light to go off? Because of the set up, you only use one of your stock bulb connector and the other one just hangs. The light only comes on when i turn on the headlights. since i had one stock connector just hanging i put the regular lightbulb in it with the kit still hooked up and the light didnt come on. So can someone help me come up with a way to trick the computer to think there is power coming through the extra connector. I read some things where they said add a resistor, if so can you explain in detail how to go about it?

Thanks

you need to wire the ballasts to run off of each connector that will stop the light from turning on. I bet you have both ballasts running off of one plug.

Yea it is, one connector powers both ballast. Im not sure how to do that other than tapping into the one connector and running wire all the way across the car to the other stock connector. Shouldnt there be a easier way?

yeah disable your drl's. Theres a how to, you ground one wire on the pcm and jump another.

I don't know if ALC (automatic Lights control) has anything to do with it too, but did you disable that too?

Grab your meter and measure the resistance across the high beam filament. Buy a resistor of that value and wire it across the unused socket. You could also spray the bulb with high temperature black paint and tuck it into the fender well where it won't burn anything.

When you plugged in the regular light bulb, it provided the signal to the BCM that keeps the SVS light off.

Painting the bulb is NOT recommended, as two things are bad about doing that.
1. It'll be very hot, and will cause it to fail WAY too prematurely, thus requiring replacing it.
2. You'd be wasting power, the benefit of HID's is that they are more efficient, but if you're lighting both a regular bulb AND the HID's, you'd be using even more power then you started out using with just plain halogens.

Using the resistor is not so good either, why? because you'd need a high wattage resistor. They sell them at Autozone, for about 15$ i think, they're normally used for fixing the hyperblinker after you install LED's in your turn signals. Again, they get really hot, and you are again still using all that extra power. and if you were to buy a really small 1/4 watt resistor from radioshack, it'd burn out almost right away/ or pop a fuse.

the way to fix it the right way is to have each plug turn on it's own ballast, instead of one plug turning on two ballasts.

yeah unfortunately, cuz my ballasts have a grounded case, so when It touches anything metal my headlights turned on, so I had to insulate my ballasts before attaching them to the car.

the middle wire is the constant positive and the outsides are your switched grounds for high and low. the pink one is for high beam I believe. (at least that's what it is for 00' GA's.)

Hey guys just letting you know I bought my HID kit from http://www.hidextreme.com/HID_FAQ.html and I am having the same problem (the link has the install directions) But the relay harness it came with also uses only one 9007 socket. Im still guessing that no one knows how to fix it? Im contacting back and forth the guy in charge of the site and he still doesn't know how to fix the problem either.

ok so i guess imma try to make each connector turn on each ballast. But what do you do with the wires that were previously trying to power the second ballast?

isn't there an easier way like using a 194 bulb in the 9007 socket some how? or sticking something in the socket?

That svs light wont go off unless both connectors are using power, like i said i plugged up all three light using the extra socket, 2 HID and 1 regular and the light didnt come on...so that gave me the answer right there to how to get the svs light out. How to do it....dont sure. Im guessing theres two options maybe three.
1) Make each connector turn on each ballast
2) Tap the extra socket wire into the one in use, so that they are both powering the HIDs through one socket
3) Some say use a resistor on the extra socket

But hey Kullski if you figure out something let me know

I don't get why you are having such an issue with it . All I did was make a relay harness for the ballasts and disable the DRL's and haven't had any codes thrown since. Your cars possessed

I was just thinking wouldn't doing option 2 cause yoo much power to go to each ballast?

It will have a higher current draw through the one set of wires and you will have a code thrown for having a headlight out because the one isn't being used

so your saying the only way to fix the problem is to modify the relay harness?

So after delaying fixing my problem this strange thing is happening. Randomly my HIDs will turn off and on while im driving. But when they turn off my dash shows that the brights are on. Then if the headlights turn on the brights light goes off my dash. Is this only because the SVS light is on?
