You lost me here, I thought there would be less heat going thru the CAT, some being dissipated into the turbo, but I don't know....maybe only less at start-up.

Take it for what its worth, but I believe you WILL want a flex pipe somewhere on the pipe coming from the rear manifold. Also if that turbo is just hanging there, I will give it about 2k miles before shear does its duty and the pipe cracks.

Just my 2 cents.

Otherwise congrats on the build, it looks great and make me miss my turbo GA.

I've seen countless dyno tests in magazines on factory turbo cars where adding cat-back exhausts, high flow downpipes, and high flow cats or deleting the cats netted them big HP gains.

Plus the extra heat from the turbo could kill the ceramic core in the stock cat. Switching to a metal core high flow cat could get you 15-20hp or more depending on the amount of boost you're running and size of the turbo. They're only about $110... I'd do it.

aight. I'll have to get it a couple of months from now. I just want the car running for the time being. Just had back surgery a month ago, so i'll need to pay off those bills and then get the high-flow cat. It was in the works, just not this quick.

But the goal isn't for making as much power, It is just to complete the show car theme. I had no engine work and lost points at shows. While the rest of the car is shaved, custom color paint, fiberglassed interior & stereo system, Air ride, big brake kit...etc.

But high flow cat will be in the works for sure.

Any pictures to how you "secured/braced" your turbo?

Well, yeah the turbo makes a lot of heat back up in the manifolds. It doesn't let the exhaust gas pass through quickly and dissipate the heat downstream though so the heat builds up in the pipe on both sides, and the waste gate routes exhaust back into the downpipe pre-cat also, so the cat is still seeing 100% of the exhaust heat. That is the most important thing to remember because adding any kind of boost (turbo or SC) increases cylinder pressures and combustion temps, and the cat has to deal with those higher temps.

^ Exactly. Most good turbo kits have a support bracket of some kind to help keep some of the weight off the manifolds. Probably could mount it somewhere on the transmission. Where'd you put yours?

I must have missed this post, but no, I actually left more of the crush support than Richie (AleroME) did in order to support the front bumper cover:

The top and front was left completely uncut, while the bottom and back was hacked on quite a bit. I can post a better picture of the crush support if desired...

$100 to anyone who decides to say "screw the crush support" and make a V-mount setup for the intercooler and radiator.

Sweet! looks nice. How much boost you planning on running again? You might find some gains from a bigger TB and MAF... but then again the intercooler pipe doesn't look that big though so maybe not. What size is the discharge size?

ic piping looks to be 2.5", unless running a lot of boost or something it should be sufficient.

Thanks! .. only running 6psi. The I/C piping is all 2.5" and the compressor housing on the turbo is 2.5"
