Shock24Z Still kinda new, but learning
Done right, I think 12's can be had for a reasonable price. Its just not a very well mapped out road and therefore is like venturing into forbidden territory.

I think if/when more people show if/how a fast an nbody can be made and for how much, it won't sound as dangerous as it does now.

And in my opinion a GA pulling on an LS1 would be way cooler than a 'vette pulling on just about anything.

My bro is looking at buying one from a guy thats an 2001 SS, artic white, 6 speed. Just throwing it out there, dont be doomed to a money pit b/c youll regret it.

Im .3 slower than the fastest GA EVER so far mine has an intake/ no tune, headers and ill be 12.2 region. Plus a modded GAGT will not bring beans for resale, i sold mine to our used car dept for 4k.

You just like going the easy way. No worries, some people prefer buying their speed, instead of building it and getting there themselves.

I've decided this is going to be my plan of attack. I want to eventually haz a turbo GA. I want to start buying parts that are going to serve me a double duty, help me out on my stock engine, and be helpful whenever this build gets serious(hopefully 2 years or so)

Besides things like ported heads and manifolds what else would be worth it, now and later?

*Note* I plan on doing a rebuild before the turbo part starts. I want this thing to be built right, when the time comes.*

to do your build "right"... id suggest starting with a reworked fresh block...all new bearings (cam, mains, rods) get some 8.5:1 pistons from whichever manufacturer you plan on gettin them from...either A. get the stock rods shot peened for strength...or B. get some s/b chevy rods which there are some available in the f/s section, have the crank all done..magnaflux EVERYTING, im sure they will at the shop anyways...and a turbo cam and the correct length pushrods..get some headstuds and some heavy duty headgaskets, because (LOL) I KNOW from personal experience that the stocker aftermarkets dont like 15 pounds of boost..id start collecting the parts now because it will probably take you a while to get everything and put together...anything im missing fellas?

All that crap about a reworked block is down the line cause I can't affrod that sort of stuff right now. What will help me now with my n/a and later with my turbo.

What can I get that I can transfer from the stock engine to my built engine(in due time) that will help?

well...honostly...nothing will work to help you n/a and turbo...except the headstuds maybe because they'd be the easiest to install...but other then that, everything i listed off will all havta coincide with one another

So your saying I couldn't get ported Upper and Lower Intake Manifolds now? How would that not benefit both motors?

And the same token for cat back, and small stuff

well i was just naming major componets for your build since you said excluding manifolds...(upper intake manifold, lower intake manifold)

I know I could easily get over my head with this build. But I'm willing to learn and think I'm taking the safe(er) route by eventually building on a bare block rather than tearing the car apart, in case it falls through.

you can get away with doing springs...but valves takes an extensive amount of work to replace...

i really dont know much about the hard core stuff that goes with boosting one of our cars, but i can agree with buying the RIGHT parts and collecting stuff for later.
im big into car audio and if anyone knows anything about car audio, that is that its very expensive. i bought bits and pieces of my system when i had the money and put it all together a year and a half ago now. i bought all good equipment and not had any problems to date. my friend on the other hand bought all crappy cheapo stuff and is now finally just about done replacing all his old stuff with stuff like i got.

i cant stress enough the need to do it right the first time, like someone said earlier, to reach 350hp, your pushing the snot outta this engine and something is bound to break. luckily, if the build is done right and good precautions are used, the 3400 can actually make impressive amounts of power and be DD. good luck on your build, i intend to watch this thread

Im friends with someone on this forum that has the RSM/ZSPEC kit at ~13-14psi reving to 7,000rpms making 365whp and 362wtq. He managed to have everything running right for a while, month maybe. (shot peened OE rods i believe and forged pistons) But when you start making HP beyond what everyone else is YOU will be the one who finds out the weak link and YOU will be the one with the blown engine/trans. The problem he ran into was the cam pin, i think, it snapped and he threw all of his valves into his nice $900 pistons, willing to have a boo boo that expensive? Yeh, i believe 360whp is do able on a stock bottom end as long as the person tuning it knows what there doing, But then head gaskets start blowing and possible head lifts from such high boost and compression. But, head studs and copper gaskets should fix that problem. Those pistons are very weak but with a good tune theyll hold, but as soon as your kr spikes it WILL break! I used a LM1 wideband, it is datalog compatable with HPTuners.

Another note:
Yes, i do have a GREAT job i love. I work as tech at Toyota and am payed very well cause im fast and good at it. No, i have recently bought a NICE forclosed home, for all you pricks who think im just like you sitting in your basement jerking off trying to make a car that was not built to be semi fast (14 sec fast, some 13 sec's, and a couple 12's, that are no more) Maybe there is a reason no one has modded the GA's, because it too much $$$ and not worth it. Thats why i stopped when i did. For whoever told me a while back that they would be making 500whp on their new 3400 streeet car "setup" when you do and post a pic of your car, mods, dyno sheet, and hardcore proof thats its legit i will send you a personal check for $100, cause its not happening any time soon or future.

(No disrespect for crazy and those who get what im sayin, but it can be done with money and wisdom, but its rare to find that on this forum (excluding spy, aron, schweepe, etc) Dont lay claim to your "future setup" build it and show it. You people like stewart that do stupid mods like intake and exhaust and thats it, you dont have any room to talk which also reminds me of the times youve been owned in other threads)

Just my $0.03
I just dont get why people like you still hang around these boards. IMO you have no right to bash the ga for being slow just because you failed at making it fast yourself... I could care less how fast your zo6 is you can brag about it all you want but no one here really cares.

The whole point of this thread is to help someone new make a fast ga not sit and tell everyone to take the easy way out like you. Sure your car is faster than just about any car here but who focking cares anyone with money can go buy a fast car but it actually takes somethink to make a slow car fast.

For a lot of us its not about having the fastest car around its about racing our hard work down the track and seeing results... but I guess we will always have people like you who take the easy way out and buy a fast car.

Hell while your at it why dont you go pay someone else to make your zo6 even faster!!! Having someone else do all the work would be no different than what you did when you bought the car in the first place.

im out...
