if you want the 3.4 DOHC why not just buy a monte Z34 and go from there? seems silly to do all that work for really no reason. you can throw a 5 or 6 speed onto the 3400 and turbo it. anyway, i dont think this board would be good to get info for the DOHC because no one here has that engine.
though, one of our sponsors does have some parts for said engine. http://www.milzymotorsports.com/ |

ok thanks for the info but i just wanted to do something that no one else has. i don't know what kind of six speed fits in the car and what kind of cv shafts does it use? what about just using a stock 3.4l and then using a 3.8l supercharger? i don't like side mount supers because you still have a little bit of turbo lag.

Better to take the little bit of lag instead of headachs. IIRC you can not use a charger from a 3.8 on a 3.4. Totally diffrent motors. Someone already did a 3.8 SC in a grand am already.
There is also a 5 speed running around on the boards already.. There is also a LS1 V8 in one too, incase you decided to do something like that. Work with what you have. Less cash and time. GL

A 3800 sc will not fit on the 3400. Their is only one sc available for this engine and they only made 18 of them (pic in my avatar). Also their is no lag at all with these blowers the air only has to travel a few inches farther than it would if it was mounted right on the manifold.

about the supercharger not fitting- ot a problem i hace guys that can cast an intake and i can make a custom intake on cadd. that is not the problem. and about the lag, a side mount supercharger creates boost exponentionally, and twin screw or a roots blower makes a predetermined amount of boost before a side mount will, because if you make a side mount create as much boost down low in rpm like the other ones then it will go into "surge"(which happens to over spooled turbos) and it will not make the power or keep the intake temp low. does anyone know about the six speed. make kind of tranny is it? thanks for the info

Well if your going to cad and build a custom intake, I have a question for you.
What is it that you are trying or want to accomplish? The tranny I belive is from a G6.

Its not the intake that's the problem people have done their own before. The problem is that the 3800 is a 90* engine and the 3400 is a 60* engine which means the 3400 is a lot taller than the 3800. If you want to mount a 3800 sc on this car prepare to cut a huge whole in your hood to make it work.
Their are much better ways of making this car go fast though IMO putting a 3800 sc on it is just a waist. Also I have driven around quite a bit with my grand am supercharged and their is no lag at all with the m62. Compared to my parents 07 gtp their is no difference at all. Anyways what kind of power are you looking to get out of your car? Depending on what you want a supercharger is not the way to go. 3800 = ![]()

yes the m62 is the way to go, sorry i wasn't trying to rip on someone that has a intake mounted super, but i do'nt like the rsm side mount one. there is no lag with the m62. and about the 3.8 super swap to 3.4. the hood thing was one of the things that i was looking for, now that i know the hood clearance will not work then i will have to find another way to do this. is your intake super intercooled or not. the only other thing that i wnated to know is if the 3.4l DOHC motor will fit between the front and back of the engine bay. on the supercharger thing i could see if i could maybe mount a twin screw down in the lifter valley. i have seen that before, but that could only be with the 3.4l DOHC. what are your guy's opinion

as far as i know, no one has done the 3.4 swap so that might be some uncharted territory. id email/pm milzy. he works with both engines so id think hed know.
i think most people would say stick with the 3400. going turbo would be learning something knew. or try to make some SC setup work with it. as far as the baer brakes, i think he got them from www.pfyc.com but they dont sell them anymore. you might be able to get them directly from baer. there are some cheaper options tho: http://www.mpracing.org/store/index....ewCat&catId=66 |

thanks rich. i will see if i can get a hold of him. i have delt with turbos and superchargers and nitrous all my life. i come from a long line of engine builders and general mechanics, making an engine make power is nothing i just wanted something different. and for the brakes does the corvette brakes bolt right one or not? and i heard something about using camaro stuff for the rear well i have a third gen camaro and if the parts work then that would be cool

ah, you said you knew a lot about superchargers. i think a V8 or something would be more different than the 3.4.
HOW-TO Install Corvette brakes on a 99+ GA that should answer most of your questions. theres tons of info around here. take a look around. |
