Ok I really got to thinking after I found out the JL 500/5 is on backorder at most places, I just dont want to wait 1-2 months for this thing. Although I really wanted a 5 channel amp now I'm reconsidering getting a 4 channel and a mono for the sub. Anyone have experience with alpine amps? I was looking at the MRV-F340 for my surrounds 55x4 and then the MRD-M300 for the sub 300x1 at 2 ohm.
Only thing that concerns me is if 55x4 will be enough and what is the quality/reliability of Alpine amps? The CDA-7995 is already on its way. Or should I run with no rear speakers and step up to a MRV-T420 to power my components at 110x2? Dont know if I'd like rollin with no rear speakers though. I got a week till my head unit arrives just want some different opinions before I order an amp. I always order **** then 6 months down the road decide I'm not happy and order something else, I want to do it right the first time this time around. All suggestions are welcome! Oh trying not to spend more than $600

How about the awesome kicker 800.4, for you fronts and rears? i have on in the fs section for 320 shipped brand new, then you could get a jbl bp600.1 and you will be well below 600 bucks.
4 ohm stereo rms 100x4 for your components and rears. 4 ohm mono jbl 300x1, 2 ohm mono 600x1. Amp Last edited by Mattcoool; 02-19-2003 at 07:29 AM. |

My system is ran by a PPI-PCX 2125 Amp. Its the best amp out there (price is a little high - $680) But I got it for $350 from my uncle. I believe www.jlc-electronics.com offers it for $380 because the markup is crazy so he sells for dealership prices. Best amp out there..PPI Amps~!! It is a competition amp, and it runs my 2 JL 12w3's louder than any system in the schools parkinglot! Precision Power (PPI) does have other models and mono amps as well..browse some PPI amps as they are the best amps I've owned (I have owned JL amps before)

I put alpine up as some of the best stuff there is in durability and Sound quality.
7995 has excellent sound quality although it'll take you a bit of time to play with the settings. if you have good ears you can tell the difference between a 160 bitrate mp3 and 192. The amps are just as reliable and almost always put out more than they say. All I need is the upcoming M1000 and I've got alpine all around |

I have had my Apline MRV-T757 amp pushing 2 12" Type R's to 142 Db multiple times, and it stays strong. Fan cooled, and takes more abuse then it should.
I love alpine, almost all my headunits and amps have been alpine.

Oh well, didn't respond in time.
![]() Those'll work fine, though it's a step down from that JL. Backorder? I just called my JL rep/freind. There's no backorder on the 500/5. ![]()

Like mentioned above the Kicker line of amps is also very good. All these brands are not going to be over rated, but yes under rated. As far as the set up goes, the amp combo will be great! If you have a wuality HU that has front, back, and sub outputs I would suggest getting s 2channel amps, and the sub amp (2ch or1ch with work great). That way you can control your pahsing better and balance things well. But a 4ch amp with good features may save you some money over and be just as effective. The mono sub amps are great, but if you can find a low ohm bridgable 2ch amp you can get more power out of a smaller rated amp, which is great for comp! So what are you planning to do now?

Greg, how is that infinity? My dad is looking for a sub for his jeep, nothing great, but it comes stock with infinity stuff, and it sounds really good. Is it a good sub tho? How much did you spend on it?

The sub amp you have packs a little more heat than the back of the 500/5, you may wanna think about either a pair of W3's or a W6v2.

greg,
i have that same deck, but im running all JL amps (500/1 and 300/4) and im running 2 10w6v2s off my 500/1 (500 watt mono amp). it sounds pretty good actually. i wish i had seen your post earlier...we have one of the 500/5 amps in stock, we always do. he keep one of each of the JL amps in stock, but always 3 500/1 because they sell a lot. we are also autorized dealers for JL. either way, the alpines are good as well. i wanna know how your system sounds after its all done. ill start a thread with pics of my setup.

Greg, the sub channel of the 500/5 is a 250/1. The Alpine is almost twice the power. A W6 would take it OK, though close to the limit, a pair of W3's would eat it up. Depending on cost, there's the newly released 13w6v2 - YUMMY!

Got my amps this weekend I was pretty impressed Alpine tests all their amps before releasing them. That mrd-m500 rated at 564x1 and the mrv-f340 rated 57x4. Now I have to save a little and get a nice JL sub, trying to stick with just a single sub. How much are those 13w6v2?

Full pop retail is $599 I believe, very not cheap. I expect to see them in the $350 to $400 range online soon, keep an eye out.
More cone area than a 12w7, more excursion than a 10w7, and a PORTED box in the 2 to 2.5 ft^3 range, with W6v2 sound quality (excellent). Can we say "Perfect Subwoofer"? It's my new fav....
