info from someone at LS1GTO:

$30,995 is for a barebones 1SS model. A 2SS model is $34k. Once the "popular" equipment is then added to that, your looking at a $39k after car/tax/title/reg.

The Auto transmission is $1k itself.

I'd just take the bare bones, the 2SS is probably some BS convience package and leather seats. Or just wait a year when these aren't selling well like the GTO wasn't they'll be offering rebates out the ass on them.

a 300 hp v6 is a excelent bang for your buck. but when it comes to muscle cars, its v8 or bust.

and i agree with you bob, the v8 isnt going to sell well. i think after the intial gotta have impulse is gone, there will be a lot of v8s sitting around.

I'd take a 1SS with the RS package. I'm guessing the RS package will be between 3 and 5K.

Although I would like to have the aux gauges and stereo that comes with the 2SS.

also interesting how the G8 is based on Holden's Zeta platform...so is the new Camaro. The new malibu is a disgused Opel Is the american segment of GM doing any thinking anymore?
The camaro might be based on the same platform, but it's not sourced from australia. Not like the GTO or G8 which where/are shipped over here. If you put a G8 and Commodore side by side, yeah they look almost the same, have similar dimension, features, etc. There is nothing in australia that is anything like the camaro though. Most everything on it was made specifically for the american market.

So does that mean the G8's will not fall apart like the rest of Pontiacs vehicles (except for the GTO).

The V6 model looks nearly identical to the V8 model, so if the V6 model is ugly, so is the V8. Also, why is having a lot of them on the streets is a problem? That's exactly what GM has to do in order for this vehicle to be a success.

The latest Car and Driver has the V6 Camaro hitting 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, and the quarter mile in 14.5. Thats not too shabby for a 6cylinder. That is faster than almost all of the earlier camaros with V8s. A few years ago the 5.7 liter 350 was cranking out 325hp in the ss Camaro. Now we are getting 300hp out of six cylinders! Plus the lower models look way better than the Mustang.

If you dislike pontiacs so much WTF are you doing here? GTFO and go hang around on some other board where they like to hear your whining, or STFU! All my pontiac vehicles have treated me well, and personally I think their quality is a lot better than it was 10 years ago and continues to improve. Your remark about falling apart is BS.

Ditto. I haven't had any problems out of the Pontiacs that I have owned.

My 88 Lemans- only replaced the clutch and the heads(due to overheating 30 miles from civilization)

92 Sunbird- heater core

96 Sunfire- engine due to previous owner not taking care of it

02 GA- nothing so far

Everything has issues. Nothing that is man made is perfect and it will never be.
