Porting alone or cleaning, milling, valve job, and porting? I have a couple different types of porting based on application/budget.

Milling is where they grind the bottom of the head down. You can have it done just a tiny bit to make sure it's flat so it seals well, or you can have more taken off to raise compression slightly.

Also when he's talking about a valve job, that doesn't mean the valves. That means they grind the valve seats in the head with a new profile so that the valves seat better and you get better flow around them when they open. If it were me I'd get them ported and a valve job, and maybe the minimum amount of milling.

$470 for street port/mill/valve job and you supply the valve/springs/seals/retainers/keepers. $200 more for the street/strip porting, which is the best NA 3400 head porting available.

I have done more flowbench testing on these motors than anyone else most likely. Not too many companies care about these motors, let alone the time to do R&D.

question, when reinstalling the oil pummp drive gear should I lube the gear itself with assembly lube or just the part on the cam that comes in contact with the gear?

CAI= Cold Air Intake. It gets routed to the wheel well area to grab up colder air at the bottom than if you had the intake in the engine area which is a WAI. Colder air makes a better fuel/air mix for the spark.

More than likely, they are using all aftermarket rings.

stock pistons, stock compession. picking up ported 3500 heads here in a few weeks as well as 2 replacement pistons. the top compression ring in 2 are seized into the piston so they are no good.
Edit: make that 3 new pistons

so ive run into a snag. as i was putting in the pistons that are good, i got the first one in no problem, but i cant for the life of me get the second one to go in. 3 times i tried it and every time the oil ring would get to the deck of the block, it slips in between the compressor and the block and puts a halt to the piston making it home in the cylinder. could anyone possibly take a stab at whats going on and give some advice, or just give some advice because im obviously not doing something right. Thanks.

do NOT try to force it. you must use 2 people when this happens. dont use the end of the compressor that has the little tabs to keep it above the cyl, use it upside down, then make sure the oil ring looks good. if not then get another oil ring set, if you have problems, i can get you a single one, just need to know the size and brand. if there are any nicks or bends in it, DO NOT use it. on that one, make sure you crank down on the ring compressor extra hard to make sure itll collapse the ring all the way and keep it tight, then use a wooden hammer handle and tap SLOWLY while someone else hold down tightly on the ring comp. itll work itself in, i know it happened to me too, i tried forcing it and ruined the oil ring, had to get a single set, which sucked, but i got it.
