"Between that and the lower temps, you can add a lot of ignition timing which equals power."

That is not true. You make it sound like more advance = power but this is only the case to the optimal spark timing. Too much and you resist the piston more on the compression stroke and waste the energy vs having the peak pressure from the combustion event happen I believe around 20 degrees ATDC?

I was thinking it was a bit lower like 13* ATDC.... but your point stands.

If timing was maxed, I would throw more air into the equation (assuming I could do it with the turn of a knob... or MAYBE the change of a pulley, but thats a lot of work ).

I've read that tuning in order of fuel>spark>boost is best... but whatever balance makes the most power without exploding is best IMHO.

Guess its a good thing that this is limited to GA's...

http://60degreev6.com/forum/showpost...4&postcount=98

94 Corsica with a turbo'd 3400 just ran a 12.976 @ 106.52. And he's still at less than 10psi of boost.

Too bad he didn't slap his setup into an n-body.

But would it have run 12's in an n-body?

My guess is yes. Since the rules are for 96+ N-bodies, a Corsica is going to weigh about the same as an early N-body.

Nope, it's open to 99+ N-bodies only. Says on the first page. I'm pretty sure a '94 corsica is a good bit lighter than a '99 grand am. It would probably still run a good time though and with a little more boost who knows? Might still be able to hit 12's.

Wrong.

Challenge Rules & Details & Requirements

The new, updated sticky calls for 96+ N-bodies.

Internet search came up with the following curb weights...

94 Corsica - 2665lbs
96 Grand Am - 2736lbs
99 Grand Am - 3080lbs

Mine was 3140 with me in it. Back seat, passenger seat, and spare tire removed. 1/4 tank of gas. I weigh ~170. This was from the scales at Norwalk back in '05 & '06.

Ghey.... when did they change that? Because it was never open to pre '99 before. The challenge was always about the record for 99+ N-bodies. pre '99 already has a different set of records and it's a different chassis that came with different engines and transmissions, and requires different build parts to achieve those times. Including them in the competition nullifies the whole point of it.

ie, the rules also state an engine must be used that was available as a factory engine from at least a 99+ n-body... which would mean anyone with a 96-98 would have to swap in a 99+ engine, which would be going into a lighter chassis and already giving them a weight advantage over a 99+ chassis... and therefore doing nothing to further the cause of lowering ET's for 99+ n-bodies and proving their capability.

As long as its the same platform as a 99+ grand am, then that shouldn't be an issue. Besides, you had to be a member of this a while back to be able to compete, since this is a grandamgt.com challenge. That pretty much narrows down the competition, though by 2009 we may take registrants from this year. Cross that bridge if it comes.

The manufacturer's curb weight spec (before owner mods) should be within 100 lbs. of the '99 plus models, or it ain't fair.....
