wow you know its tough times when GM considers selling 2700 cars in a month a success

The G8 GT isn't that much more than a GTP was and its a better car by far. The GXP is way overpriced though IMO

i know all about inflation and how things go up, from experience and from sitting through enough business and economics classes. i guess my point was that after driving one after hearing the endless talk about the G8, that i really was not as impressed as i thought i would be. it still is one of the best buys i believe for the 30k-ish price tag and the aftermarket will be even larger in a year or so.
im anxious to see how sales are of G8s as spring arrives and people start looking at performance orientated vehicles more.

Also you forget, at the time sales where down, NO ONE was buying cars... from ANY car company. Everyone's sales were down, and still are because the economy is in the toilet. If GM can manage to increase G8 sales in an economy like this.... again, it looks like they are doing pretty good to me then if you consider that.
the car has been a failure, period. It's not just my take or a couple peoples on another forum. Even menbers on a G8 forum who know reality agree overall sales have been poor. The #1 stat for quality of sales is # of days of inventory on lots, NOT how many manufactured. There are enough G8s to last many many months on lots right now. Thats not good whether its a bad or good economy.

nice, solid car......but its style, price, and specs are just not desirable by the OVERALL car buying population....which is what counts in the end.

Get the Pontiac G8 GT or GXP while you can !!!

GM has no plans to re-badge it for North America.

They would rather sell the Pontiac Vibe in '10; as the last Pontiac model

The G8 should be redone as the new Impala once Pontiac is done for good.

Looks like the Pontiac G8 sold ok ?

All of the 1829 GXP's are sold.

& there are only 7 new '09 G8 GT's left in the US inventory database.

Uhm, no. What part of the 2 year process, including Pontiac being axed, would make anyone think this?

The GTO sold every unit manufactured as well, for roughly 45,000 units over 3 model years. Does this mean the GTO was a brilliant success for GM/Pontiac?

The G8 was a bigger failure for Pontiac than the GTO though. It wasn't a 2-door V8 coupe within miniscule trunk space launched in the winter time. It was a 4-door sedan that replaced the very popular Grand Prix nameplate and was suppose to retain or build on that market segment due to the G8's technical and performance improvements. It didn't, and sales were actually only a sliver of the Grand Prix line. Rental companies didn't even snatch the vehicle up in droves.

I feel like the very name, G8, doomed the car. I wouldn't have liked to see it called a GP, but it might have picked up better as a GP.

Pontiac's entire naming campaign was part of it's problem, starting with the G6 bullsh1t.

G3
G5
G6
G8

I mean seriously.....that is focking retarded. And considering they were most likely trying to copy the higher class import naming convention, that makes it even more pathetic.

To this day, the beginning of the end for Pontiac was the design and implementation of the G6 to replace the Grand Am. The Grand Am needed a facelift, but changing the name and purpose of that market segment car destroyed a key demographic of Pontiac buyers (young, $$ conscious buyers who want something sporty) that would have ultimately turned into long term Pontiac owners.

We tried to tell Spoon this (for newbs, he was a GM/Grand Am engineer who use to be here all of the time) when providing focus group feedback on the G6, but of course, in true GM fashion, his replies were mostly blowing our feedback off and thinking THEY (GM) knew more of what "we" wanted than "we" did our self.

Agreed 100%. That whole G name crap really irked me. They nailed their own coffin with that sadly enough.

Agreed. I can't say I've ever preferred a G6 over a GA, despite the problems GAs have.

Honestly, I liked the engine/transmission offerings in the G6. But the rest really steered me away.

Its probably still not enough for GM's over inflated debt. GM actually sells alot of cars but its not enough for their bottom line due to their inefficient business practices and expenses. I remember a few years ago for my business class, I had to do a research paper and I used GM's business approach as a topic, it was during their first bailout.

Is what GM does really considered a "business approach?"
