that is indeed the pcm. there should be a set of numbers somewhere that says serv. number.

There is a plastic thing holding it in, like a clip, pry that back, and pull on it, it will come out, when I took mine out I had to pull back the carpet and stuff to make enough room.

hey guys im trying to get the serv number off my pcm too

i took the black plastic cover off under the drivers side, now there are these two white plastic cover looking things under neath, both have a screw in the center that says do not overtorque etc

do i have to remove these to get to the pcm? also i have to remove my pcm to get the number, if so do i need to disconnect the battery first?

thanks

Unscrew both of those screws. then you will be able to pull the Pcm out. On the side like 1/2 way up it is the service number.

so i take both the screw out and slide the pcm out enough to get the serv#, should i disconnect the battery?

Yes, it is.

I was kind of surprised too, how big the PCM was

hey guys

i could use your help asap!

i have the computer out of the car, now when i go to put it back in that plastic clip in the center doesnt want to hold the pcm in, i have the lever in place holding the one side but when i let go of it, one end of the pcm falls out a little from the plastic holder, its like once i removed it the plastic clip got bent just enough that its just a little out of place and doesnt hold the damn thing in!!

any suggestions? should i just connect it back together and leave it like that, just a little worried cause its not all the way up into the holder

Mine did the exact same thing, the little plastic clip is bent to far out to hold it up so it sags a little, I just left it and the black plastic piece that goes on last seems to hold it up fine.

ok cool thank a lot dude! seriously

i put it back in and yea thought o well what can i do!, you can push it a bit and it'll go up in it a little then when ya let it go it comes back out again like an inch or so

only thing thats a little ghey is now when were driving and hit some little bumps or what not the thing is gonna bounce a little inside, hope its durable...

might try wrapping the bottom of the unit with some tape or whatever, maybe once i get my new pcm in, might not look pretty but who's gonna see it, bit a beach to get it off but atleast it wont bounce

if anyone else has had this problem and or have a solution to bend that clip back a bit, it would be appreciated

i tried bending the clip back with the pcm out, to try and make it bend the other way more so but it didnt help at all

wait a minute man, look at the pic from the OP, at that point he took the pic I dont think he had taken the PCM out yet, did you Metalxen?

His clip isnt over that metal lip before the crimp bits, thats the lip I was trying to get it to stay at, or push it whatever, it seems his in that pic looks to be in the same position mine was in when I put it back, I wonder if thats really where it stays but we think it was there before just because it does seem like thats where it would go, also it does go up more so its weird

hmmm

regardless the car is back together, runs fine, got the number, so thats good

That was taken b4 I took it out to look at the serv # and it also just hangs there a bit , no problems yet and I doubt if I will have any.

Has anyone ever plugged a newer model PCM into a 99 GAGT and had it work?
What does the serv. number represent?

Service number compatibility chart:

Nevermind, the forum wont allow xls files to be uploaded.

If youre asking can you take a PCM from any other year than your 99 then no, not without adjusting it for your car as your fuel injectors are smaller and fuel pressure is lower. If you dont have a need to change the PCM (meaning: your car runs) then there is no need to fool with it.
