While this list shows #'s specific to the year of the vehicle it should be noted that depending on the exact build date of the vehcile you may have a serv # that corresponds to a build year before or after the actual model year of your car

Hopefully this will help end some confusion for a few people...

What does the serv. number represent?
I have, on my '99 Alero GLS, but it required a "rewrite entire VCM" function (HP Tuners) to do it. My '99 now uses a 2001 program. I have issues getting a performance tune from the 1999 calibration, so I use the 2001.

Edit: I also remember taking a different PCM that had a 2001 program written onto it and installed it in my '99. That required a "relearn" procedure, but it worked.

If youre asking can you take a PCM from any other year than your 99 then no, not without adjusting it for your car as your fuel injectors are smaller and fuel pressure is lower. If you dont have a need to change the PCM (meaning: your car runs) then there is no need to fool with it.
Ok, my pcm is not back from MPR yet and I need to get my car started this weekend. I have a swapped 3500, with a 03 fuel rail/injectors. I want to finally see have the damn thing runs and if I have any problems.

What I have at my disposal is a 04 GAGT PCM, but I wont even able to compare the two until friday so I was just getting info. Thanks Tho

Thats pretty sweet, I am trying to avoid the hp tuner....I'll probably screw something up.

like with my year its a 96 will i be able to just pull one from a 97 or is it the same as the 99 changing. ive heard i could from different people then some people say i cant whats the actuall answer cuz i know my pcm cant run boost since its the 96 version or its not programable for boost i cant remeber now. and im in the process of gettin another 2.4L rebuilt with turbo and a good bit of boost and need to be able to program the pcm.

and if ur having problems holding up the pcm u can do what we did in my one buddys truck, the handymans secret weapon. DUCK TAPE, the silver wonder of the world. . works
