there are some people in this comunity like myself that would ONLY mod a car like this. i especially wouldnt buy a civic , wrx, mustang , ect... because everyone and there brother has done everything there is to do with them.

my goal with modding a car is to be ORIGINAL. to do something others think it isnt gonna work or isnt worth doin. thats when satisfaction is at its fullest. when i have a car no one else has ill buy another car that most people wouldnt mod. i modded a sebring convertible, and to this day its still the most enjoyable thing i have done to any car.. its not about being the fastest car out there to everyone.

I personally dont think that there is any one person on this site that is actually trying to build there car to beat any brand, make, or model. I think for the most part, like myself, its all about being different. How many civics do you see on the roads? How many stangs? I doubt that at the begining of time, they'd even be running the same numbers. If theres no money on the line and its all for the fun of it, so be it. Who ever said the civic was worth it? F$%k it man, why dog someone for being different?

i dont recall anyone saying they dont want a car faster then someone elses.
most people are basicly saying that they are not trying to build the fastest car. i think we all want a fast car, which a ga can be. also we just want our car to be different and to make our car as fast as we can with the amount of money we are willing to spend.

u got to remember everyone comes from all different walks of life and got or gets there money differently. we all also have different priorities and obligations. so what one might think is too much to spend another person might think its a not.

The grand am is just a bad performance platform to start with. Its a relatively heavy car with a motor that is underpowered. The fastest times from the V6 are high 12s and only a couple people have even hit that. The 4cylinders are all dog slow except spy and maybe one or two other cars. These guys all have way more money into their cars than most people here are willing to spend.

All of the popular cars to mod either A) start out as a relatively quick sports car, or B) are relatively inexpensive to buy used and can be made "fast" without spending a considerable amount of money. A grand am is neither of those.
I agree with you, yesterday a KIA minivan pulled up to the light along side me....I thought well this will be no problem as our lanes merged into one, I'll just nail it and pull in front of him. Well much to my dismay it boiled down to who was crazier and was goint to let off first because I could not overtake him ......3 letters.......GTO !!!

It seems that some of you regret even buying a Grand am let alone doing any mods to them.
But look at it this way, coming from someone who took a basic stock Malibu and changed the looks of it besides doing some performance work, all in the name of BEING DIFFERENT. Is it everyone's cup of tea? Probably not, but the satisfaction of having something no one else has is better than going with the flow and owning the same thing as several others out on the road.
Don't dismiss the possibilites of the Grand Am, look at it as more of an adventure, since the N-body doesn't have the aftermarket like other models out there. But if it wasn't for guys like 60degreeV6 and WOT TECH there probably wouldn't be anything out there at all. Look at it this way these guys felt there was a demand out there for parts for the N-body GM's and they have done the work to help those of us out here to do what we feel is in our reach to create an enjoyable customized ride that no one else has.

My car is a sleeper too

Most people here don't even know what I am driving; or what is under the hood

Except that one guy chasing me down in a Chevy Cobalt SS asking if I have been to a track (1/4-mile) yet.
& was it me that ran a 13.6 'last weekend' at Toronto Motorsports Park - Dragway.
Answer was no

I don't regret buying one, just kinda disapointed in it's performance but it does turn heads.

It just means people like you and me have to work a little harder to create the vision we have in our heads. These cars have potential and it's not like you have to break the bank. I look at it as the overall picture, from performance to handling and then styling all mixed together.

The potential for performance is very limited. I've done so many diferent upgrades and the outcome wasn't all that great. Of course I'm going back to my younger days and my 71 Chevelle that when you mashed the pedal to the floor you had better be holding on . My 04 Grand Am is a head turner though it's just to bad it's so darn slow.

I disagree if performance is so limited then how did angrysk8r run a 13.347 1/4 mile with a 2.3 60' on a basically stock motor running fairly low boost?

http://grandamgt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79763

Now all of these products on wot-tech are not their just for looks.
http://www.wot-tech.com

Take a setup like angrysk8r's and combine it with even a mildly built 3400 and a decently built trans and you have a 12 second car. With all of the parts available right now I have no doubt in my mind that the 3400 can be running 11's.
