What is a TSB??
What is a TSB???
TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin. GM puts them out to their dealerships when there is a common problem with a product and recommends fixes for them. They are NOT recalls. The dealer has no obligation to fix something just because there is a TSB for it, your car has to be exhibiting the problems noted in them. When do I take a TSB with me to the dealer?? When a problem you are having matches what a TSB states. Attempt to get service before presenting a TSB to a dealer. Only present one when you absolutely need to. Anyone else.. feel free to chime in.

I'd like to add a little, mainly to clarify.
If you have a good dealer like I do, having a TSB is of no benefit. If your car is under warranty, defects are repaired for free. If your car is out of warranty, you pay for all repairs. A TSB has no bearing on this. A TSB does not mean you get your out-of-warranty car repaired for free. If your car is still under warranty then it's repaired for free anyway. A TSB helps the service tech by eliminating troubleshooting time allowing him to go straight to the repair. It also may give him an "approved" method of repair. I've seen a number of posts over the years by people with crappy dealers where a TSB has come in handy. For example, a person got their car back unrepaired with the "can't duplicate problem" comment even though a TSB had been issued for the exact complaint. The person had to take the TSB to the dealer to get his car repaired properly. Either the dealer didn't know about the TSB or they didn't want to do the work. Either way, this dealer sucks and it's time to find a new one.

I'm looking for the TSB dealing with the crapy RSA issue. Do you know where to find it? I need a copy to send to the Goodyear dealer in order to fix my tire issue. Thanks.

Need TSB 43831 1994 Grand Am
I'm having trouble finding the turn signal flasher on my 1994 Grand Am. I got the diagram of the parts from the dealer but I still can't find it. I searched www.alldata.com and found a TSB number 437317 with a description of Turn Signal Flasher - Location Revised, issued Oct 1994. I'm wondering if someone can send me more information about this TSB. Thanks!

IN ADDITION*****
If you have any questions about if there's a TSB pertaining to your problem, feel free to ask. Many of us have access to them. Also, (using the post right above mine as an example) make sure your year, trim level, and engine is included somewhere on your post.

Stalling and hard starts
Seth, your TSB list just saved me from a major headach! My 2002 GT has that problem and it drove me nuts. I called my dealer( who's usually on top of this stuff) and he told me it was normal. I asked him to check the TSB and 'ta da! He's gonna handle it tomorrow.

So if I just give the TSB# to the dealer, they would have access to all procedures?

Intake Manifold TSB
Hello,
I am looking for the TSB regarding our crappy intake manifold gaskets. I have to change mine out. The TSB is 03-06-01-01OB Are aftermarket intake manifold gasket kits just as good as the dealers. GM's cost is quite a bit more expensive. Thanks for the info. |

What is a TSB
Could someone give me some info on TSB # 020308008----RATTLE, CREAK, POPPING TYPE NOISE FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE WHEN TURNING. TT
I am having this problem with my 03 Alero, and I am taking my car to the dealer Friday to have the OBD upgrade done. So I thought I would have them check a popping noise I am getting sometimes when I turn. I found this TSB, and I was just wondering what they do to slove the problem? |

Some customers may comment on a rattle/creak/popping type noise coming from the front of the vehicle when turning the steering wheel. This noise can typically be duplicated with a short drive on uneven road surfaces, then turning the vehicle left or right into a 90 degree turn. Cause This condition may be caused by the front stabilizer shaft insulator to front suspension crossmember brackets being out of specification. Using the J 39570 Chassis Ear hooked up to each bracket may assist in determining if they are the source of the noise. Correction Replace both the front stabilizer shaft insulator brackets using the procedure listed below. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Reposition the intermediate steering shaft seal in order to gain access to the lower pinch bolt. Remove the lower pinch bolt from the steering gear. Support the front suspension crossmember with a suitable jackstand. Remove the rear mounting bolts from the front suspension crossmember. Remove the center mounting bolts from the front suspension crossmember. Remove the front mounting bolts from the front suspension crossmember. Lower the front suspension crossmember approximately 15 cm (6 in) by adjusting the jackstand down. Remove the retaining bolts and stabilizer shaft insulator brackets. Install the new stabilizer shaft insulator brackets and retaining bolts. Tighten Tighten the stabilizer shaft insulator bracket bolts to 66 N·m (49 lb ft). Install the front mounting bolts to the front suspension crossmember. Hand tighten the bolts. Install the center mounting bolts to the front suspension crossmember. Hand tighten the bolts. Install the rear mounting bolts to the front suspension crossmember. Hand tighten the bolts. Tighten Tighten the left rear bolt to 110 N·m(71 lb ft). Tighten the right rear bolt to 110 N·m(71 lb ft). Tighten the left front bolt to 110 N·m(71 lb ft). Tighten the right front bolt to 110 N·m(71 lb ft). Tighten the center bolts to 110 N·m(71 lb ft). Tighten the stabilizer shaft insulator brackets bolts to 66 N·m(49 lb ft). Install the lower pinch bolt from the steering gear. Tighten Tighten the bolt to 40 N·m(30 lb ft). Install the front tire and wheel assemblies. Tighten Tighten the nuts in a criss-cross pattern 140 N·m (100 lb ft). |
