Bob,

I don't think you are going to like the bills for the GTR.

Feel like stopping by the dealer for your GT-R?

Every oil change interval involves also changing of the differential and transaxle fluids.

A $2000 US bill each time.

+ the tranny's are weak, & owners are blowing them up every once in awhile.

Don't even think of mod'ing it.
Because Nissan is just itching for any excuses to void your warranty.

F the GTR. If you're gonna roll like that go for Z06, 4S or Turbo. The GTR is cool and all but it's a humongous car and too boy racerish for the most part. Why not something bigger with four doors? GS4xx, 5+7 Series, or even one of the S series line from MB? STS-V?
Only car I would contemplate that is not a pure "weekend car" would be the CTS-V. Because if I were to go that route I'd trade the GTO in because the new sedan would also serve as the DD but have the performance of a Vette. GS4xx, BMWs, and MB (outside the AMG SL55 and AMG SL65) don't really interest me. Nice cars, but they don't bring it like the V. Plus, I don't fit the mold of the typical drivers who have them.

GTR is a long shot anyway, just a thought in mind to keep there in case I found one at a good price. However, regarding that cost and maintenance, I wouldn't be doing it. It's pure BS and I guarantee a lot of GTR owners who are true car enthusiasts do their own work without any issue. I mean, putting air in the tires is the only thing more basic on maintaining a car than changing the oil. Regardless of what Nissan says, diff and tranny fluid DOES NOT need changing every 2-4,000 miles. The RX7 didn't even require that for highly modified setups.

Perhaps, but when it comes time to get that warranty work done on your misfunctioning/broken trans/rear/whatever, it's what Nissan thinks, not you and I.

Like some jewelers with a wedding ring: make sure the piece is inspected every 3/6 months, whatever. Miss one of those appointments, and you're SOL when the rock falls out, regardless of how unnecessary such regular checkups may seem.

True but hell- it's not like you were Vin Diesel either when you had the Rx. Why not a G8 GXP? I'm sure there will be some sitting around on lots still next year. You're pretty much trading in the GTO for a sedan version. SL55/65 but I don't see them as commuter cars or anything. Plus you could probably but a V and another car on top of that for the price of an AMG.

There are like only 16 left (out of the 1829 made) in the US that are unsold.

Unless, you are talking about "used".

Dated Nov 11, '09
While Supplies Last: Pontiac says only 16 G8 GXPs left at U.S. dealers (among other things)

& 570 G8 GT's left in the US unsold.

What's the insurance cost on some of these "exotic" rides? That includes the Pontiac G8, as far as I'm concerned.....
