Oh, yeah...oil changes on the G8 GT
= expense.

8.8 quarts of oil & PF-48 sized oil filter

But they last a long time.
I am getting predictions of between 7,500 miles to 11,000 miles.
Depending on my driving.
I am currently at about 5,500 miles & round 50% on the oil life monitor.

What are you going to do when something fails (not covered under warranty) and you cant afford it?

Have you even got a quote from your insurance on how much more its going to be?

Did you get an price estimate a month for this G8? And for how many months till it changes? You know you pay for other stupid fees that go along with the price of the car right?

And of all models to waste your money on, why the V6? They are slower than a GTP. Its a fact. I have it on video. I have raced 2 local ones many times with the same outcome.

Plus the G8 V6 does not have nearly as much aftermarket/tuning capabilities as the G8GT.
I see your guys' points.... the main purpose of this thread was to get information on the 6 cylinder model alone....i appreciate input on the GT's but im interested in the sixer. Asking for input doesn't necessarily imply its not in my budget. This is only just a thought at this point, which of course is the first step of the process. And the truth stands there isn't hardly enough mods for the v6 to really make me want one horribly bad.

As far as the "package" G8 that's in the picture, not the specific model I'm after... although if the guy holds to his word i wouldn't pay any extra out of the deal for it because "management is pushing to dump them out of inventory". I don't buy half the $hit car salesman talk, until its on paper with no strings attached. But it doesn't hurt to see what they will offer to get you to stay seated .

I would love a GT... but insurance is decent at best right now with an SE grand am... and that's why the sixer is in my best interest's. Besides I wouldn't behave behind a meaty V8.

I'm going to run the numbers tomorrow and hit the dealership up Saturday to get some more information on where i actually stand. I'm plan on keeping this vehicle for a long period of time, so the depreciating value doesn't mean much to me.

Somewhat off topic, does anyone trust used cars being sold from car rental company's? Ive always heard two theories, its like marrying a hooker as we all know everyone beats the hell out of rentals.... and the other where they "maintain" their inventory very well and keep them in great condition for customers? There is a few GT's for sale locally, low mileage at a decent price.. but i don't exactly trust rental cars.

I'm more inclined to go with the first one. They maintain the cars as minimally as possible to keep costs down while still meeting certain standards of "care" and "quality". There was the one story of the rental saturn that no one changed the oil on for some crazy amount of miles. Got so bad the entire valvetrain was flooded in muck and sludge. On the flip side if you could get it for a steal or have a tech look it over and give thumbs up or down then its a different story.

Sometimes you do get lucky, I bought a 5 year old pontiac sunbird, back in 95. It had 115k miles on it and it had been a rental car. It ran excellent and had good power and mileage.

Yeah, it all depends on the dealership and how much you trust the service manager... My next car (spoiler alert: next month) will be from a dealer rental.

Interior is falling apart, wine and oil stains in the back on the floor, each on different sides. Have one broken panel in the rear.

I'm honestly content with my car, and everything Ive done to it (intake, exhaust, tint, tails, and seriously killer stereo). But it lacks the power i want and the looks i could have with something else....

Still owe a few grand on it.

They offered to pay what i currently owe, give me $2500 for the trade, and 6k off MSRP (which next time i go in i might get a better deal because a friend knows a salesman).

Money isn't exactly easy right now, but if I'm only paying another $100-$200 at the end of the month on car payment/insurance it doesn't sound like too bad of a deal.

Anyone own a v6 G8? Input?
I'm going to give a more simple answer than the convaluted, deep sh1t already given....

If you are SERIOUSLY looking to move on to a G8, your #1 best bet is to buy a USED 2008 or 2009 G8 GT! You should be able to find one for $19-20k. It will still have a warranty and it will save you money. These cars depreciate like a rock and you can get a better optioned car, with the V8, and a lower insurance rate because it is used Buying the V6 is like buying a V6 Mustang.

The deal they are giving you doesn't sound too great if they are giving you $6k + $2500 trade off the price and your payment is still $100-200 more. WTF are you paying a month now, $200???

I got an insurance quote on a used G8 V6 and they want $180/month, which is $90 more than the GA. That's in my mom's name with a clean record. Just thought I'd throw that in here to give you an idea.

i second buying used. the G8s will have low miles and most likely still have the car new smell even . the only problem is the loan interest rate will be higher.

After re-reading this thread, I still say used, but have to add something after seeing others touch on it a bit.

The insurance hike is going to be quite the ass reaming I'd guess. A 90k mile, 5 year old GA SE versus a 1-2 year old G8 is going to be double the price a year I bet.

i'd bet it would be more than double, 4 door GA SE's are a dime a dozen (no offense) meaning they're cheap for an insurance company to replace. good luck finding a G8 thats not in a junk yard for under 10 grand.

but hey, who knows, insurance from my 01 ga gt coupe to my 05 wrx was only a negligable amount more. probably helps i have a clean record and am on my parents plan yet (one of the pro's of being in college i guess)

Car payment right now is close to $280. The only way ill commit is if i can get into a G8 under $350.
Bryan appreciate the info on the quote, sounds like i pay a little over you do a month for an SE... bad news already

Oh and speakers in GA started cracking real bad today... going out fast. Maybe its a sign!?

Got lazy today decided to do other worthless crap then follow through with looking into this.
Damn tryptophan.

Checked some local dealers online.... they are asking around 26K for xxx mileage used GT's, guess that's not too bad considering.... but again this is all foreplay until i get those quote from the insurance company.

But i found another V6 lower price, if they will go lower ill prolly jump on this deal.http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...&standard=true... i KNOW its another sixer but once again im not after a fire breathing monster... and hey if they will go lower on the overall price that's a better payment.

FYI...

By not picking a new 2009 model G8 you are giving up:
$4500 cash price rebate or 72 months financing at 0%.

& $350/month payments:
Go use a loan calculator, & punch in the variables.
I don't see it happening for you.
Unless you have a big downpayment
or extending out the term of the loan to some ungodly length

DO NOT buy it from a dealer. you can easily find the price I stated from a private party. For example, Dealers want mid $50's for 2 and 3 year old Z06's....they are focking high....I'd never consider one from them and dealers won't negotiate low enough where you can buy a car private party.

DO NOT do 0/72mths...that sh1t is focking ridiculous just asking for trouble. People who are still doing this are the same people who put our economy in the trouble it is trying to get out of now.....they are living beyond their means and stretching things. Yeah, it may be 0%, but you'll never be in the positive on the value of the car and there is a strong chance you want a new car or that one has gone to crap before you make the final payment to own it 6 years from the day you pick it up!

New G8 (V6 or V8) for $350 or less a month IS NOT going to happen, so .........

Id like to go with a private owner, but i lose the incentive of getting my current car paid off. And i don't want to put the $ into my GAThe dealer I'm going to pays trades off, no questions asked.

The deal with the 0% for 72 is you are stuck with the MSRP sticker, which I wont be making a $450 car payment anytime soon!

My "guy" isn't working today, so i guess ill check on the numbers next week.

I understand getting an 08 g8 under $350 a month is a looong shot, but hell you never know. Maybe i should just invest in some headers and pcm....
